A family history of myopia (short sightedness) is one of the strongest predictors of whether a person or their child will develop the condition. Myopia is hereditary and the risk multiplies depending on the number of parents are affected.

One myopic parent - risk of developing myopia increases by 2 to 3 times

Both parents are myopic - your risk doubles again, leading to roughly 50% chance of developing the condition.
