October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In females in the UK, breast cancer is the most common cancer, with around 56,500 new cases every year. That's 30% of all new female cancer cases in the UK.
Over the last decade, breast cancer incidence rates have increased by less than a twentieth (3%) in the UK. Rates in females have increased by a twentieth (5%), and rates in males have remained stable.
A person’s risk of developing cancer depends on many factors, including age, genetics, and exposure to risk factors (including some potentially avoidable lifestyle factors). According to Cancer Research UK, 23% of breast cancer cases in the UK are preventable.
* Less than 1% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by oral contraceptives.
* 2% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by post-menopausal hormones.
* 8% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by overweight and obesity.
* 8% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by alcohol drinking.
* 5% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by not breastfeeding.

The Grange Story

The Grange Surgery is situated in front of Tesco’s in Petersfield, conveniently located on The Causeway. We are a friendly group of health professionals always striving to help our patients and local community. We have a team of GP’s. Dr Kathryn Bannell (Partner), Dr Penny Mileham (Partner), Dr Sarah Boutler & Dr Catherine Johnson. Our GP’s are supported by a team of 3 practice nurses and 2 health care support workers. We also have a great reception and administration team. Our ethos is patient centric and we are keen our patients see their registered GP at all times to help with continuity of care. We have a great interactive PPG (patient participation group) and always looking for new members. We meet on a monthly basis and always ensure there is coffee and biscuits.
