*Are you on the verge of a burnout?!*

Do you feel like you are constantly juggling, always on, always rushing to the next thing, constantly checking social media, constant notifications, addicted to your phone but you don’t even realise it! Juggling family life with work and trying to keep it all together?! Working hard and burning the candle at both ends?
It’s hard to feel like we can fully ‘switch off’ without missing out.

Unfortunately this way of living exposes our chances of reaching burnout quicker.
Burnout can be challenging to identify, many of us think that it is simply mental exhaustion but it is a physiological condition that has physical impact on our lives leading to depression and apathy. If left unidentified and untreated it can have devastating long term effects on your health, everyday happiness and fulfilment.
Common signs you are reaching burnout;
1. Feeling easily irritated, frustrated and overwhelmed
2. You have little to no motivation
3. You can’t sleep or don’t sleep well
4. Emotional fatigue
5. Compassion fatigue
6. Physical exhaustion
7. Trouble concentrating

Here are a few tips to turn this around and start the healing;

1. Get active! Exercise is the first line of defence to burnout. Walk, run, dance, swim, it doesn’t matter, this will release endorphins and send signals to your body that everything is ok
2. Say No! Assess your commitments, prioritise and don’t take on too much. You have to manage your energy carefully
3. Connect- Talking about friends and family about how you are feeling outwardly and not bottling things up will help you process things and make changes
4. Cultivate a rich non work life- Find a good work life balance
5. Get enough sleep- Get those 8 hours. Try yoga or meditation before bed, keep your room cool and stick to a similar time for your sleep cycle
6. Disconnect- Leave the phone at home, put it in a drawer and take regular breaks now and again. Even if it’s 5 mins to get some fresh air and just breathe

Do you want to live to 100 years?!

The latest ‘average life expectancy’ in the UK as of 2020 is 78 for males and 82 for females. Apart from those that are predisposed to genetic hereditary disease, for those of us that are healthy, there are ways to live longer by as much as 10 years if we adopt the right habits and lifestyles.
Research into the ‘blue zones’ around the world has proven this. 263 centenarians were interviewed to reveal lots of interesting findings.
These blue zones were found in places like Sardinia, Greece, Costa Rica and Japan and here are some of the fascinating insights that these group of amazing people hold.

1. They move naturally- by walking, gardening, house work etc
2. The have a sense of purpose, a strong reason to wake up every day
3. They down shift- taking time each day to relax and unwind z
4. The 80% rule- they stop eating when they are 80% full
5. Plant based- meat is kept to@a minimum and they live on plant based diets.
6. Wine @ 5- they drink wine moderately yet regularly (my personal favourite 🍷☺️)
7. Belong- to a faith based community
8. Loved ones first- keep ageing grandparents close and invest in their children
9. Tribe - Strong social networks and friends

Time to find some inner peace ✌🏻 Back in the Lake District for a swimming/ hiking/ yoga retreat and I already feel a sense of calm and chill which clearly has been well overdue!

In this post Covid world, many of us have put pushed holidays back or had things cancelled. I think what is important is the time to unplug, disconnect and have that break, no matter where it is. We need to adapt and take the time anyway.

Lately I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out with work and low on energy and motivation so I am hoping that this time will help me recharge and what better place to do that than in nature!

Consider how you will unplug and recharge this year to sustain and maintain your energy levels and positive vibrations?! 🙏🏻💆🏼‍♀️✌🏻

Do you have a sense of purpose and direction in your life? Do you set yourself regular goals? Do you feel like you are fulfilling your full potential?!

It’s much easier to feel resilient when you have a sense of purpose. This gives you that motivation to jump out of bed in the morning. But often we live our lives from day to day and forget to set goals, no matter how big or small to work towards our ‘best self’ in the future.

Recently since the gyms have been back open, I’ve set myself a goal to look and feel stronger. I also set myself a goal back in December to complete a 100 mile hilly road bike race that is happening this week! The hard work and training has been done, now it’s all about the ex*****on.
-What goal will you set yourself this month?
-Make a list of tasks for each goal
-Schedule and diarise the tasks
-Plan your week
-Reschedule anything you haven’t managed to do yet

You can do anything that you set your mind to achieve with the right preparation, practise and daily intention to fulfil your potential 🙏🏻🙌🏻

*Easy to cook tray-bakes*
I don’t know about you guys but I am all about quick and easy yet healthy dinners. I literally live on tray bakes at the moment. So quick and easy to prepare. I tend to mix it up a bit and rotate different meats, fish or have plain veggies but my favourites are with Salmon, chicken thighs and artichoke/ tomatoes 🍅. Have a go and experiment!

Winter Wellness Tips!

Winter is all about the water element, rejuvenation and turning back the clock. We need to adapt our routines and think differently about what we eat and drink to maintain our health in top condition and help our immune system do it’s job. Here are my top tips for winter wellness;

1. Keep hydrated- drink before you get thirsty! By keeping well hydrated you will notice a huge difference in your skin, energy levels and eyes. Avoid overly cold water and opt for warm healthy drinks like herbal infusions.

2. Avoid certain foods such as raw, cold and ‘heavy’ foods that take a lot of energy to digest. So less sugar, deep fried foods abs white bread!

3. Eat more of the right foods; Soups, stew, casseroles, porridge, root veggies, beets, seeds and nuts

4. Find a morning exercise routine to kick start your metabolism and warm your body for the day ahead. This could be anything from yoga to a brisk walk in nature.

5. Get some extra Zzzzzzzz’s- with shorter, colder days and longer nights, our bodies naturally need more sleep. Try going to bed 30 mins earlier. A sleep deprived body is more susceptible to illness.

6. Supplement with key vits- My go to vits for winter are Magnesium, Zinc, Vit C, Vit D and Probiotics. More Info to come on supplements in my next post!
Keep well everyone!!

I finally did it!
I am now a fully qualified integrative nutrition health coach.

What a year, in more ways than one and what an amazing course!

Not only do I now have the knowledge to impact people’s health and their lives, I have also changed my own health for the better in so many ways.

In a time where we are all more concerned about our health than ever, this course taught me how being proactive about healthcare is so much better than reacting and treating illness when we are already sick.

I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about holistic wellbeing in an easy and digestible format. It’s changed my life for the better and I hope to help many more people in the future.

Recently I have been reflecting on how 2020 has felt like a year where we are all holding our breath and waiting for better times whilst forgetting how to be happy in the here and now.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally realise and understand that this year has been tough. I have been through the highs and lows like everyone else. But as we approach Christmas and almost a full year of dealing with COVID in our lives, waiting for the next BBC announcement from Borris, I am simply not going to let it stop me from living my life anymore. Today I embraced a nice walk in the rain, tomorrow I plan to appreciate the time spent working from home to organise my winter wardrobe.

Before we know it, life will be back to normal and we will look back and think of all of that free time we had and how we could have spent it being happier, more grateful and with loved ones.

So I am choosing to be happy right now and to feel grateful for my health, a roof over my head, a job and my friends & family! Cheers to that ☺️🥰
