After having the privilege of looking after both Len and Iris in our home, it was so lovely to receive this beautiful gift from their family.

They wrote;
' You looked after Dad so beautifully which is why when the time came, we wanted Mum to come here too.

They both loved being in your care and enjoyed all the fun and activities you provided, they both loved you all, you were their extended family.

We think of you all with so much love and thankfulness for all you have done for Mum and Dad and for all the love and care you have shown us.'

Thank you for the previous gift and kind words, we miss both Len and Iris and will miss you all too.

Today was World Manager's day.
A day dedicated to acknowledging and appreciating the efforts and contributions of our managers.

We thanked our managers for all their hard work to make Steep House a happy and rewarding place to work and a happy, comfortable and safe home for our residents.

This week is International Housekeeping Appreciation week.

This week every year is used to show housekeeping teams how much they are appreciated and to shine a light on the work that they do behind the scenes every day.

Thank you our wonderful housekeeping team at Steep House.

Today we enjoyed some aqua painting. The canvas starts off white but when brushed with water an image is revealed.

Residents chose an image to paint and we reminisced as they painted.

Florence talked about the farm, collecting eggs from the chickens and the cockerel waking them all up at the crack of dawn.

Sylvia chatted about flowers in the garden and how she loves the smell of roses.

Audrey told me how peacock feathers were unlucky and how noisy they can be.

We have been reminiscing about our favourite childhood toys and games.

Mary B loved her dolls. They were her favourite thing to play with. She recalled that she and her friend, whose mum was a nurse, liked to play doctors with their dolls.

Mary also had an uncle who worked in the rubber factory and she had rubber building bricks to build houses with.

Jean remembers trying to do the Rubik's cube...'it was impossible!'.
She said she was just as bad with the hula hoop, but, like Mary, she loved her dolls.

Nora doesn't remember playing with many toys but was outside a lot. She and her friends would do a lot of skipping together and her father allowed them to have a patch of the garden to grow their own plants.

When the weather wasn't so good, they played board games like snakes and ladders, did cats cradle using some wool and five stones, a game that I know as Jack's.

Our housekeeper Paula remembers Clackers, which turned out to be a dangerous game to play! Others recalled scalectrix, dinky and matchbox cars, train sets and riding out on the bikes.

UPDATE!!

Due to the sickness we have had in the home, we have decided that it is not a good idea for our residents, for us to hold our party this Friday.

We will instead be holding it on Saturday 18 October.

This will mean that we can prepare once again to have our raffle, tombola, food stalls etc and make it a special day not just for our residents but for families and friends too.

Raffle tickets are now on sale in reception.

Thank you for your continued support.
