Some upcoming minor changes for anyone working in EYFS from 1st September, courtesy of Debbie - The Early Years Specialist - thanks for the tag!
My next public PFA is on Thursday 18th September in Marlborough. All details and online booking at https://worsleytraining.co.uk/book-a-course/paediatric-first-aid-marlborough-wiltshire-2/
If you work in the Early Years Sector, you should be fully aware of the new EYFS coming into force on September 1st.
We have picked out some of the key updates and will be sharing them this week to help our followers feel prepared.
* Paediatric First Aid *
Paediatric First Aid for Trainees
From September 1st , apprentices, students and trainees must hold a valid paediatric first aid certificate before they can be counted in staffing ratios.
This means every adult working directly with children must be ready to respond in an emergency. If you are supporting trainees or new starters, make sure they know what's required and have time to get their training in place.
Please Note:
* Apprentices under 17 cannot count in ratios at all, regardless if they hold a PFA certificate
* When counting trainees in ratio ensure they are competent and working towards a qualification
Settings are responsible for identifying and selecting a competent training provider to deliver their PFA training.
The Early Years Specialist's "Partner in Practice" Worsley Training is worth checking out for all your PFA training
Whilst children are eating there should always be a member of staff in the room with a valid paediatric first aid certificate.
"Before a child is admitted to the setting the setting must obtain information about any special dietary requirements, preferences, food
allergies and intolerances that the child has, and any special health requirements. This information must be shared by the setting with all staff involved in the preparing and handling of food. At each mealtime and snack time the setting must be clear about who is responsible for checking that the food being provided meets all the requirements for each child.
The setting must have ongoing discussions with parents and/or carers and, where appropriate, health professionals to develop allergy action plans for managing any known allergies and intolerances.
This information must be kept up to date by the setting and shared with all staff."
