Did you know sunglasses can be made with your prescription?

As the brighter spring days start to appear, sunglasses become more important for protecting your eyes from glare and UV rays. If you normally wear glasses, prescription sunglasses mean you can enjoy clear vision and proper sun protection at the same time — whether you’re driving, walking along the coast, or relaxing outdoors.

They’re available in lots of styles and lens options too, including polarised lenses that help reduce glare from bright sunlight and reflections off water or roads.

If you’ve never tried prescription sunglasses before, feel free to ask us about the options next time you’re in. With spring around the corner, it’s a great time to start thinking about them. 👓☀️

❓ How Often Should You Have an Eye Test?

A question we’re often asked is, “How often do I really need an eye test?”

For most adults, it’s recommended to have a sight test every two years, even if your vision feels fine. Small changes can happen gradually, so you might not notice them day to day — but a regular check helps keep everything on track.

A sight test doesn’t just check how clearly you can see. It also looks at the overall health of your eyes and can sometimes pick up early signs of other health conditions too.

If it’s been a while since your last appointment, now is a great time to book. We’re open 6 days a week, including Saturdays, and offer both NHS and private sight tests, making it easy to fit around your routine. 👓

Spring Driving Prep

With spring on the way (WE HOPE!🤞), we’re starting to see brighter mornings and longer evenings — which is lovely… but it also means lower sun and more glare, especially when driving.

If you find yourself squinting, struggling with reflections, or feeling tired after being on the road, anti-glare lenses can really help. They reduce reflections from headlights, wet roads, and bright sunlight, making driving more comfortable and safer.

An up-to-date sight test and the right lenses can make a noticeable difference to your confidence behind the wheel. We’re open 6 days a week, including Saturdays, and offer both NHS and private appointments to fit around your routine. 👓

Let’s get your eyes ready for brighter days ahead.

🌧️ Rainy Commute Reminder

If your commute feels a bit gloomy in this endless rain, you’re definitely not alone. Dark mornings, wet roads, misty windscreens, and bright headlights can all make travelling feel more tiring than usual.

That’s where clear, comfortable vision really helps. An up-to-date prescription and the right lenses can reduce glare, improve contrast, and make driving, walking, or using public transport feel that little bit easier and safer.

If you’ve noticed more squinting, headaches, or tired eyes on your way to work, it might be time for a check-up.
We’re open 6 days a week, including Saturdays, and offer both NHS and private sight tests, so fitting it in is simple. 👓

Take care on your travels and stay safe in the wet weather.

❓ Frequently Asked Question: How long does a sight test take?⌛️⏱️

One of the questions we’re often asked is, “How long will my sight test take?”

In most cases, it takes around 30–40 minutes. This gives us plenty of time to check your vision properly, examine your eye health, and talk through any changes or concerns you may have — without ever feeling rushed.

We’ll explain everything clearly, answer your questions, and make sure you feel comfortable throughout your appointment. Whether it’s an NHS or private sight test, you’ll receive the same careful, personal attention.

If it’s been a while since your last check, now is a great time to book!

👓 Looking After Your Glasses This Winter

With cold weather outside and warm heating indoors, winter can be tough on your glasses. It’s tempting to place them near a radiator to dry off or leave them in the car while you nip into a shop, but heat can slowly damage frames and lenses.

High temperatures can cause frames to lose their shape and may weaken lens coatings, which can affect both comfort and clarity over time.

A few simple ways to help your glasses last longer:
✔️ Keep them away from radiators and heaters
✔️ Avoid leaving them in hot cars
✔️ Store them in their case when not in use
✔️ Clean them with a proper cloth and lens cleaner

Taking a little extra care now can help keep your glasses comfortable, clear, and looking their best for longer ❄️👓

And if your glasses ever feel loose or uncomfortable, just pop in – we’re always happy to help!

Dark winter evenings often mean more time on phones, tablets, and laptops — and it’s no surprise that many people start to notice tired, sore, or blurry eyes by the end of the day😫

One simple habit that really helps is the 20–20–20 rule:
Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
It gives your eyes a short but important break from close focus.

💡Other small tips that make a big difference:💡

Blink more often (we all forget when we’re on screens!)

Make sure your screen isn’t too bright in a dark room

Sit at a comfortable distance from your screen

For many people, lenses designed to reduce blue light can also help ease digital eye strain and improve comfort during long screen sessions.

If your eyes regularly feel tired, strained, or uncomfortable, we’re always happy to offer advice and check that your vision is working as it should 👓

It might not feel like sunglasses weather, but the low winter sun in January can actually be tougher on your eyes than summer sunshine – especially when you’re driving or out for a walk🚶‍➡️

If you find yourself squinting, struggling with glare, or feeling eye strain, anti-glare or polarised lenses can really help. They reduce reflections and improve comfort, making everyday activities feel easier and more relaxed.

Whether it’s for walking around, driving in low sunlight, or simply being outdoors more comfortably, the right lenses can make a noticeable difference. We’re always happy to talk you through the options and help you choose what suits your lifestyle best.

Your eyes deserve a bit of extra care in winter too 👓❄️
