There’s a saying in the spiritual world along the lines of ‘you’re exactly where you need to be’ and, whilst that can be a very powerful phrase and allow you time to pause and reflect and not beat yourself up, it can also be completely soul destroying.
Soul destroying when you’re in a situation that seems to suck the very joy of life away, you don’t want to endure it any more, and no matter what you do you can’t see any way out that doesn’t involve additional pain or suffering. That’s when that phrase does nothing more than make you feel unreasonable for wanting different, selfish for wanting better and impatient for not believing you have the right for desire to change things quickly.
So yes, that phrase can be wonderful and helpful, but if all it does is make you feel worse, then leave it behind for the moment. Instead try one of these and see which one fits best for you and your circumstances.
‘Each (insert the right word here- day, hour, sycamore seed) brings me one step closer to (insert word or phrase here)’
‘My steps are taking me towards the future I visualise, and I ask for the wisdom and help of my guides and guardians’
‘Please show me how I can use this experience to find the path to my goals’
Of course it’s also vital to make sure you truly feel those emotions around your situation and process them, and work on feeling the feeling you’ll feel when the situation shifts for the better. Always remember that even through the darkest days where you have no hope for change, there will come a day when you can look back and see the transition happening.
(One of my current endurance situations are these blasted sycamore seeds which seem to be in the millions this year. They can kill my horses and goats if twenty are eaten. My goal is to buy land so I can move them to safety, and me away from the endurance (land is very scarce to buy or rent around where I live). So every sycamore seed I pick up is one step closer to my goal.)
