All athletes will go through times when they need to rest and recover. It’s essential for their longevity and growth.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an excellent tool for this.

HBOT recovery sessions are really used for regeneration of tissue.

The goal is to load up oxygen as a fuel source for recovery and repair, and also utilizing the parasympathetic stimulation of HBOT.

You want to get the body into the parasympathetic mode, because we know that all the healing and recovery happens when we're relaxed and in our parasympathetic state.

If we're stuck in fight or flight (the sympathetic state), we know that the body does not heal, repair and recover as well.

HBOT as a recovery tool should be used throughout the entire year.

Let's say in the off season, it could just be used intermittently to make sure that we're supporting that athlete in their off time.

That might look like 1 to 2 hours a week.

As they start getting into their training season and training starts to pick back up, HBOT should also pick up at a similar pace.

That might look like going from 1 to 2 hours a week, up to 4, 5 or even 6 hours a week. Maybe 60 to 90 minutes every night after a training bout and before bed.

That's a great way to use it as a recovery tool.

When the training is a little less intense, maybe 60 minutes is enough, and as the training gets more intense, 90 minutes should be considered.

Do the benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) end the moment your session ends, or do the benefits continue on past the session time?

The short term part of the answer to that question is dependent on how much pressure you were being exposed to, what percentage of oxygen were you breathing, and the amount of time you stayed in that chamber.

Next, different tissues utilize oxygen at different rates. You can certainly assume somewhere between 4 -12 hours.

On the other side is the long term benefits. So as a result of repetitive hyperbaric exposures, you have a lot of really long lasting effects.

How long do those last?

Again, we don't know the full answer to this, but in research, we certainly know that in many cases you can start to see a rise in certain improvements over the course of car. Even when you pull the therapy, there's often at least an extra 4 to 6 weeks of continued improvement before it starts to turn the corner and come back down.

Contrary to popular belief, HBOT is π˜•π˜–π˜›:

❌ π˜‘π˜œπ˜šπ˜› for athletes and professional sportspeople.

❌ π˜‘π˜œπ˜šπ˜› for those with chronic injuries.

❌ π˜‘π˜œπ˜šπ˜› for those suffering from "the bends".

βœ… HBOT IS for everyone and anyone who wants to optimise their health and well-being 😊
