Remember to practice sun safety as the warm weather approaches, wear sunscreen and cover up your skin in direct sunlight where possible to protect your skin from harm.

Skin cancer, when caught early, is very treatable. If you have a mole or a mark that you suspect could be skin cancer, speak to your GP about it.

MP Luke Pollard talks about his experience with skin cancer, and his treatment at UHP.
"The earlier you get seen, the earlier you can have certainty about what that lump or bump is, and the certainty about what will happen if it is cancer".

One of the best things we can do for our mental health and wellbeing is to be active – it's a natural mood booster.

Our bodies release feel-good hormones when we're active that can also reduce anxiety and stress, and help us sleep better.

There are lots of free and affordable ways to get moving for all ages and levels of physical ability, including our Couch to 5K and Active 10 apps, so we can all benefit.

Find out more about the mental health benefits of physical activity and ways to get moving at https://www.nhs.uk/every-mind-matters/mental-wellbeing-tips/be-active-for-your-mental-health/

We want to remind people about the closure of the single lane previously open to public vehicles outside the front of Derriford Hospital. Public vehicles are no longer permitted to drive past our main entrance.

It is now advised to use Car Park F (Disabled Car Park) which has had multiple drop off/pick up bays installed with a maximum stay of 30 minutes. Please do not use these as an alternative to disabled parking if you are unable to find a space elsewhere. Licensed taxis are also advised to use these bays.

To access Car Park F, please enter the hospital site either from the mini roundabout, travelling south from Derriford Road down Hospital Road and turning right before the bus lane, or enter via Morlaix Drive, turning left towards the multi-story car park.

However, as before, patients can still be dropped off outside the Emergency Department in an emergency. This has not changed. Please continue to enter the site from the road entrance near the helipad for this purpose.

“To be able to make a positive difference to patient care through the teams that I lead is one of the most important aspects of my role. It’s important for me to be accessible to patients and families for feedback so we can learn what we have and haven’t done well in order to make improvements”. - Sue Timmins, Matron for Trauma Orthopaedics & Rheumatology

Have you heard of our campaign?

We actively encourage patients, carers, and families to engage with your matron as a point of contact for when you want to talk about things that have gone well and about any issues you may have spotted during your stay that could be improved.

Find out more about this on our website here: https://www.plymouthhospitals.nhs.uk/meet-the-matrons
