Hi all, it’s Iain & Jacqueline here, directors of The Soapbox 💛 — we need your help
This is a difficult post to write.
After more than 20 years in our much-loved family home in Plymouth, we’ve been given a no-fault eviction notice. We’ve always paid our rent on time, looked after the house, and never had any issues as tenants—so this has come as a real shock.
We know we’re not alone. We’re hearing from more and more good families in the same position, caught in the rush of landlords leaving the market before the Renters’ Rights Act came into force last week. At the same time, there are so few suitable properties available that demand is far outstripping supply - making it incredibly hard for families like ours to find somewhere. 😔
So we’re reaching out, not just as a theatre - but as a family.
Many of you will know us from The Soapbox Children’s Theatre and Stiltskin Theatre. Alongside us are our sons: Zaq, our theatre technician and all-round troubleshooter; and Quinn, who’s studying A Level Maths, Physics and Chemistry and hopes to become a molecular gastronomist (slightly bucking the family theatre trend!).
And Blue - our very well-behaved border collie, and a much-loved part of our family 🐾
We’re looking for a 4-bedroom+ family home in or near Plymouth, ideally available between now and September.
This isn’t just about finding a house ~ it will be our next home. A place where we can continue to build our family life, with space for art studio for Jaq to make puppets for our shows, and maybe even an open fire where new stories can be woven together.
(Some children genuinely think we live at the theatre—and are always a bit surprised when they see us out in the real world!)
We’re long-term, reliable tenants, and we come with:
• A strong connection to the local community
• A life rooted in creativity, storytelling, and family
• (And quite a lot of puppets and theatre props… so a garage or outhouse would be amazing!)
A garden is important (especially for Blue!), and if there’s an open fire or some character, even better.
We’re very happy to provide references if helpful.
