As I’ve had so many lovely new clients and followers over the last few months, I wanted to take a moment to share my journey with you, why I opened Holistic Beatz and what inspired me to do so.
About ten years ago, following a very challenging period in my life, I began experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. During this time, a friend, the founder of Plymouth Wellbeing Centre, introduced me to holistic treatments. She had recently returned to training in holistic treatments herself and suggested that I try reflexology.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t convinced at first. I’m not a fan of my feet being touched and really didn’t think I would enjoy it, but she encouraged me to give it a go. So, I tried foot reflexology and that very night, I had the best sleep I’d had in what felt like years.
I continued with monthly sessions and between my third and fourth treatment, I noticed a huge shift. My panic attacks had stopped and my anxiety had reduced massively. Around the same time, I decided to try Reiki and felt incredible benefits after just a few sessions.
Slowly, I began to get my life back. I was sleeping better, felt clearer about what I wanted to do with my career and found I was showing up more fully as a parent, a friend and for my family. I was also showing up for myself in ways I hadn’t for many years. These treatments supported me in ways I hadn’t experienced before and I still receive holistic treatments regularly to this day because I truly believe in how powerful and supportive they are.
A few years ago, when I realised that what I really wanted was to help others through the same mental health challenges I had once faced, I decided to open Holistic Beatz, based at Plymouth Wellbeing Centre.
I began by training as a meditation teacher, as meditation had also played a huge role in my own wellbeing journey.
(I also trained in sound bath but realised it wasn’t the direction for me. The ‘z’ in Beatz comes from frequencies and hertz, inspired by sound, music and vibration.)
I then went on to complete Reiki Levels 1 and 2 with the wonderful Barry from Intwinedtherapies, followed by training in face and foot reflexology and aromatherapy massage with Plymouth Holistic Training. I find it fascinating how aromatherapy, along with natural herbs and flowers, can have such a powerful effect and support so many different ailments. I am also currently training in Thai foot massage and have been looking into the benefits of Indian head massage.
The feet have an incredible connection to the entire body and working with them can bring powerful benefits. I know that, like me, some people aren’t comfortable with having their feet touched, which is why face reflexology is such an important treatment to offer. It provides many of the same benefits as foot reflexology, as both work with pressure points that are connected to different areas of the body. By stimulating these points, the treatments help the body to rebalance, release tension and support its natural healing process, promoting overall wellbeing and allowing the mind and body to restore harmony.
What brings me the most joy is giving treatments and seeing the results they can bring, supporting people on their self care journeys and witnessing the positive changes that unfold over time.
I absolutely love what I do and feel so grateful to be able to share these treatments with others and support them on their journey towards greater balance, calm and wellbeing.
