🐠 Meet Bubbles, the University Marine Station divers’ mascot! 🐠

Bubbles is rocking his new DDRC t-shirt while sitting in the wheelhouse of the dive vessel Wavedancer. He’s the ultimate standby diver for the standby diver—always ready to jump in!

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Plymouth University students to DDRC as part of their HSE course. The group took part in a pot dive with us, getting hands-on experience in diving safety and hyperbaric procedures. 👩‍🎓🧑‍🔬💨

On Wednesday Fred Thomas MP visited DDRC as part of his tour of cutting edge innovation on Plymouth Science Park. Fred last visited DDRC and the Brain Research and Imaging Centre (BRIC) in Jan 2024 and this time he also met with our resident British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit colleagues.

Fred was again fascinated by our work and our wealth of collaborations and interactions. The difficulties being experienced by emergency hyperbaric chambers in England didn’t escape his attention.

We’ll continue working with partners to ensure access to life-saving hyperbaric treatment is protected. Huge thanks to Fred for his continued interest and support – together, we can ensure these essential services remain available when they’re needed most.

🎉 Exciting News! IMCA Approval Renewed Until 2028 🎉

We are proud to announce that our Diver Medic Technician (DMT) course has officially received renewed approval from the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) — valid until 30 June 2028! 🏅

This recognition reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality training that meets the rigorous standards set by IMCA. We’re especially pleased that IMCA acknowledged the ongoing improvements to our courses and our dedication to excellence.

We remain dedicated to equipping professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to perform safely and effectively in challenging environments.

We were delighted to welcome Ismaeil Al Hosani and Rashed Mohammad Ahmed, Chamber Supervisors for the Dubai Police, back to our centre for 4 weeks of programmed training.

Ismaeil and Rashed have been visiting us for almost 20 years to refresh their Hyperbaric Chamber Supervisor skills along with their Diver Medic Technician, Chamber Operator and Attendant, Engineering and Fire Awareness skills. During their stay they enjoyed valuable hands-on experience as chamber supervisors and in other roles within the very experienced DDRC team, along with classroom and scenario-based activities.

The police team have recently installed of a new three-compartment chamber in their facility in Dubai which will become operational when they return with their skills refreshed and expanded. We’re hoping to visit their facility in the future!

A special thank you to them for their thoughtful gesture in bringing a lovely gift for one of our young patients.

🌊 From the UK to Fiji – Taking Training to the Tropics! 🌴

One of our fantastic trainers and chamber supervisors, Mac, has just returned from an incredible 17-day trip delivering world-class Chamber Operator (CHoP) training in the stunning waters of Fiji.

Over the course of two weeks, Mac ran:
✅ 2 x Five-day Fully Bespoke CHoP Courses
✅ 2 x Three-day Refresher Courses

With a welcoming crew and eager-to-learn participants, the sessions were a great success — and a testament to the value of hands-on, expert-led training in remote locations.

It took Mac 3 days to get there and 2 days to return to the UK, but the experience was worth every minute. He even found time to squeeze in a few dives — and captured some amazing underwater footage, including sharks! 🦈🤿
