So, if you are either a complete beginner, dabble in a bit of yoga now and then or have an established yoga practice you are always welcome to my classes. I am currently facilitating 1-2-1’s with an 89 year old lady & in my Gentle Yoga Flow class on Wednesday afternoon’s, a lady joined recently for her first ever yoga class at the age of 82. People start yoga for many different reasons. People come along because they want to simple move/exercise more, build physical strength, manage stress levels, improve mobility, learn to relax, because they are recovering from an injury or illness, to relax, to increase energy levels, for anxiety, for depression, because they have been referred by a health practitioner, or maybe because they want to learn some of the cool poses and so on. So whatever your reason is for wanting to start yoga! There are no excuses. Here are my top 4 tips if you are new to yoga/want to get back to it:
1. Find a class that fits in with your weekly schedule and committee to it for at least 2 months. If you can buy a class pass. Don’t expect the impossible, be patient, give yourself time.
2. If you can aim for 2 classes a week studio or live online. You will notice and enjoy the benefits quicker which helps with motivation. If you only have time for one weekly class try to find 15 minutes a few times a week to practice some of the pose & breathing exercises from class.
3. Remind yourself to just do what you can and that we get good at what we practice!
4. Set yourself some monthly or longer term goals. I started yoga in my 40’s when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I’m so glad I did! Yoga helped me physically, mentally and emotionally not only to get through these extremely stressful & fearful times but also I was able to thrive. Now more than ever we need to take care of ourselves! When we feel balanced, strong, grounded and calm we are able to fully be there for the important people in our lives when they need us. For me this is my motivation for practicing yoga… it is such a wondeful gift. What is Yoga Flow/Vinyasa ? And why do we love it? Vinyasa/Flow is a popular style of yoga that links together yoga poses into a various fluid sequences. A typical vinyasa/flow class will include a good balance of dynamic, energetic, rhythmic sequences/flows that move with the breath alongside slower, mindful, sustained & deep stretch sequences/flows. This nurturing style of yoga can be challenging but at the same time so rewarding allowing your body & mind to flow and relax in new directions. The benefits include:
Cardiovascular exercise
A healthy physical & mental challenge
Builds strength (all parts of your body)
Increases range of mobility/flexibility
Increased focus/concerntration by going with the flow
Find stability & balance
Awareness of the breath and its power over our wellbeing
Stress Relief helping one to find in calm
It’s enjoyable, uplifting & increases energy levels
Helps one live a healthy lifestyle and be at peace with oneself.
