Appointment only system to be introduced for blood tests at the Phlebotomy Community Hub at Windsor House

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and NHS Devon are introducing a major improvement to the way patients have their blood tests at Windsor House.

From 6 October 2025, we’re introducing a new online booking system through SwiftQueue to make your experience quicker and easier.

Patients who have been advised to have a blood test will need to book their appointment online before attending Windsor House.

This change is a direct response to patient feedback and operational challenges, ensuring that people have a more comfortable and timely experience when attending for their blood tests.

Instead of waiting in long queues, patients will be able to book, change, or cancel their appointments online at a time that works best for them. Patients will also get reminders and updates, so they know exactly when and where to go, helping you feel more prepared and reducing the chance of missed appointments.

By managing appointments in advance, we can keep the service running smoothly and reduce overcrowding, making visits more comfortable for everyone.

If an urgent blood test cannot be completed at the patient’s clinic or GP practice, there will be a facility at Windsor House where patients will be able to drop in.

The Derriford Outpatients Department will follow the same system shortly after Windsor House. Patients with routine blood tests will be able to choose which location suits them best. Some specialist tests must be done at Outpatients so the samples reach the lab in a timely manner.

If patients are unable to access the Swift Queue system, please ask a relative, friend or carer for support. We have made provisions for patients that are unable to access the system online.

Are you aged up to 25 years and starting university or further education?

If yes, help protect yourself against meningitis and septicaemia.

Make sure you have had the MenACWY vaccination or get it before you start the academic year or soon after.

Meningitis and septicaemia are very serious and require urgent attention. Know the symptoms and if you think you’ve got either, get help immediately and make sure your fellow students know to look out for you and each other.

When you'll be invited for cervical screening ?

Who cervical screening is for ?

All women and people with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 64 should go for regular cervical screening.

You'll be invited for screening every 5 years from when you're 25 to 64 years old. You'll get your first invitation a few months before you turn 25.

You may be invited more regularly if you have HPV.

If you're 65 or older, you'll only be invited if a recent test was abnormal.

You'll get an invitation through the NHS App, by text or by letter asking you to make an appointment and telling you how to book.

You can book an appointment as soon as you get an invitation.

If you missed your last cervical screening, you do not need to wait for an invitation to book an appointment.

If you're trans or non-binary

If you're a trans man or are non-binary and have a cervix, how you're invited depends on the s*x you're registered with at a GP surgery.

If you're registered as female with a GP, you'll automatically be invited for cervical screening.
If you're registered as anything other than female, such as male or indeterminate, you may not be invited for cervical screening automatically – speak to your GP surgery, s*xual health service, or transgender health clinic and ask to get invitations automatically.
If you're a trans woman or are non-binary and do not have a cervix, you do not need to have cervical screening. But, if you're registered with a GP as female, you may still be invited. Contact your GP surgery, s*xual health service or transgender health clinic and ask to stop being invited.

Why do we offer men a safe, non judgmental and confidential space to meet up most evenings to talk about their mental health issues and concerns?

One of the many reasons is that it breaks down the stigma attached to men’s mental health 💪

So what is stigma?
- Stigma is a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.

- Stigma also gets in our way when we want to make a change.

- Stigma is a deterrent to seeking treatment.

3 out of 4 people with a mental illness report feeling stigmatised 😔

Stigma can be a direct result of people having a false view about mental illness and that it is under the person’s control. We know this is NOT the case!

Let’s break the stigma 🙌

Let’s talk about it

Syphilis is on the rise in the UK — and it’s time to take it seriously.

Over the past decade, syphilis cases have increased significantly across England, particularly among gay, bis*xual, and other men who have s*x with men — but anyone who is s*xually active can be at risk.

🔹 Syphilis often has mild or no symptoms, making it easy to miss.
🔹 If left untreated, it can lead to serious health complications.
🔹 The good news: it’s completely treatable with antibiotics.

Regular STI testing is key — especially if you have new or multiple partners.
Testing is quick, free, and confidential from SHiP. Order a test kit today online or call us if you are worried that you may have been in contact with syphilis.
