DOMS — What’s Really Happening

That soreness you feel 48 hours after training? That’s Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) — tiny micro-tears in muscle fibres that trigger repair and adaptation.
Contrary to myth, it’s not lactic acid — that clears within an hour.

Hydration, protein, rest, and gentle massage all help reduce soreness and improve recovery.
Pain isn’t the goal — progress is.

Why Movement Beats Stillness

The body simply isn’t designed to sit still all day. After 20 minutes of sitting, blood flow to your lower limbs drops, and muscle activity in the glutes slows down.
Even standing or stretching for 30 seconds every half hour can reset circulation and reduce stiffness.
You don’t need a workout — just a few “movement snacks” to remind your body it’s still alive.

Having reviewed the past 6 weeks since reopening and having listened to your feedback. I have taken the decision to extend my opening hours due to being fully booked most weeks. Therefore, I have now added an additional 7 hours per week.

If you require an appointment that is not displayed on my booking system such as later evening appointment/s please get in touch and I can book these in directly for you.

Many Thanks,
Carl

It has been the toughest of years for everyone, but from Monday hopefully some renewed optimism as we move forward towards a better future. Good luck to everyone getting back into their exercise regimes and returning to some of the things they enjoy most.

I look forward (am excited) to welcoming everyone back to my clinic over the coming weeks and after a long difficult winter, seeing you all again.

After more than a year since beginning my study, I am now officially a peer reviewed author and researcher. This is one of my proudest achievements and wanted to give thanks to Dr Jonathan Rhodes, Darren Crocker, Karol Nedza and professor Jon May. I hope this research can go on to benefit patients, students and medical professionals for years to come.

Really privileged to have been chosen as a success story for the degree I completed this year through City College Plymouth & University of Plymouth. A massive thank you to Darren Crocker CityPlym, Dr Jonanthan Rhodes, Mark Mears, Ian Davis and James Hedges. And of course all my friends, family and clients.

Personal trainer Carl Turner chose to study for a degree in sports therapy and rehabilitation having realised the positive impact it could have on his career. Now, Carl runs his own sports injury clinic and intends to continue his academic journey when he starts a master’s degree next year.

“I chose to study for a BSc in Sports Therapy and Injury Rehabilitation at City College as I had been impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities and the outstanding programme being offered,” Carl said. “Whilst I enjoyed working as a personal trainer, my passion is health and wellbeing: helping people to live pain-free and to help them improve their quality of life. I just knew I wanted to push my career more in the direction of sports and injury rehabilitation and the degree seemed the best way to do it.

“The staff at the College are exceptional. Not only do they teach in a relaxed and engaging manner, they are knowledgeable and supportive. Just after I started the Foundation Degree, my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness and died six months later. I don’t think I would have made it through that first year without the unwavering support of Darren and the rest of the team: it was nothing short of incredible. Thanks to them, I not only made it through, but I progressed to complete the full degree with a first.”

Excited for the future, Carl said this course has given him a host of opportunities he once thought were out of reach. Carl said: “I would never have classed myself as academic. I didn’t do A Levels, had few GCSEs, but now I’m just about to see my research project approved for publication in a scientific journal. I also have my own sports injury clinic and have been able to grow my reputation as both a trainer and a sports therapist.

“I joined the College in my late-30s, but there were students of all ages on my course, and I met some incredible people who I now call friends. It takes a lot of commitment and you might have to consider how you fit it in around work, but it’s worth it. This course will allow you to have a fantastic, well-paid career and endless opportunities. You will feel supported and will learn in a wonderful environment with the very best equipment. You can change your life for the better with this degree.”

As it stands at present we will unfortunately be closing our doors as of Midnight this Wednesday. This has been a really tough 1st year for us, which has seen us remain closed for 6 months of the year.

Despite this we have still tried to invest and improve our clinic, whilst trying to survive the year. None of this would have been possible without your loyal support, so a massive thank you to all our clients.

We will be back in December and look forward to seeing you all. But in the mean time please stay safe and healthy, and if you need advice or support we are still accessible on the phone or via chat.

Best Wishes,
Carl and Jordan
