If you feel you might need your ears 👂looked at before October then you'd better get your skates on🛼! I only have SEVEN (7) appointments left this week (5 on Thursday 29th and 2 on Saturday 31st)... after that you'll have to wait until the 3rd October!
During that time I'm taking my big black Rabbit 🏍 (yes she's called 'Rabbit' - dont ask!) on a solo tour of Europe. I'll be out of contact for weeks, so, like I said, you'd better get your skates on🛼.. time's running out! .⏳️

Too late! Your skates were too slow.... I'm now fully booked and won't be available until October 3rd.

NB if it is an emergency (object in ear, blood, discharge, significant pain) then I will still be able to see you today - Saturday (31st).

I'll be opening clinics on different days to accommodate the demand (I'll be open on bank holiday Monday😁).

Why do I love my job so much? It's not just the wonderful people in the South West or the continual laughter we have, but it's also the surprising things I find down their ears!

So far, in the last 2 years, I've had gold earring backs, multiple hearing aid tips (in just one ear!), countless cotton wool, silicone swim plugs, a tiny dead spider🕷, popcorn (caramel flavoured apparently!), a diamond 💎, recently molten candle wax poured into an ear and today... something new, something I've never seen in nearly 40 years... the broken end of a pair of glasses! The client said it was put into his ear by a child 2 years ago while he slept! Fortunately for him the blunt end was against his eardrum (the broken end was razor sharp which would've shredded his eardrum and probably destroyed his ossicles- the tiny ear bones).

All cleared safely.... and a very happy client 😁👍 As well as a very happy audiologist 😃

I still haven't come across a stash of co***ne in an ear... but maybe I'm looking in the wrong or***ce! 🤔🤭

Another 1st, even after 39 years of studying ears!

Today it's the colour Green!
Green in ears is very common with some bacterial infections, but it's a very 'muted' pale green in very wet discharge.
It's also common with excessive use of some hairsprays (but again pale).
Then there's the rare occasion of oxidised copper (usually from jewellery).
But today I had vibratant unnatural green I've never seen before.
My guess is that it's actually from a fabric dye but mixed with wet macerated skin tissue against the eardrum. It was behind this lovely roll of dry compacted skin tissue and old wax (with a few external hairs).

The client was absolutely delighted to have it removed (but less excited about having an alien👽 green mass in his ear! 😂).

I just had to share my Green day with you! 🤣

Another first for me in the world of ears!
A few weeks ago I had molten candle wax in someone's ears and today I had TWO cotton buds in one ear!

I love surprises! 😂

It's incredibly rare that after 39 years I get to see something new in an ear but today I was totally shocked!

A client thought that "candling" an ear meant putting candle wax in it... So they melted a candle and poured the molten wax into their ear! This is definitely something I've never seen or heard of before.

As you can imagine the candle wax was solid and bonded to every miniscule crevice.

I removed it by heating up one section until soft then heating up the edges before using curetage (forceps and Jobson-Horne probe) to remove it. Behind was a blockage of human wax!

Sooooo satisfying! 😁👍

Hi everyone

Just a quick note to say I am open on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday (although Saturday is nearly fully booked)!

If you have an appointment on either of those days please be aware that the door is locked (I'll probably be all by myself - que my singing 🎶🎤) but I will be there to open the door at your appointment time... A small inconvenience but worth it to get those ears sorted on a bank Holiday 😁👍

Oh and I will be getting another trophy (like below) in June for Audiologist of the Year 2023/2024... Except it'll be a gold award for 3 yearly wins in a row! I'm gonna need a bigger shelf 😂
