Inclusive Sport and Activity Plymouth

Inclusive Sport and Activity Plymouth A network of organisations in Plymouth that are working together to improve the opportunities for disability sport in the City.

(Disabled, inclusive, sport, activities, activity, Plymouth, Devon) Inclusive Sport and Activity Plymouth (ISAP) works to support more disabled people in the city to take part in sport and exercise. The strategic group consists of several organisations, including Plymouth City Council, Active Devon and Improving Lives Plymouth. The group meets on a quarterly basis to review the opportunities in Plymouth and to identify any gaps in activity provision. Inclusive Sport and Activity Plymouth also aims to identify, and provide solutions to the challenges and barriers faced by people with disabilities who are participating in sport. Their vision is that there is the opportunity for every disabled person in Plymouth to enjoy participating in sports and physical activity. Inclusive Sport and Activity Plymouth is always interested to hear from any organisation that has a vested interest in developing disability sport.

We're excited to share that we've updated one of our most important resources - Access for All: Creating accessible places and spaces.

Access for All is designed to support local activity providers to make their activities and venues more accessible for disabled people, with some small low-cost changes. The guide provides practical examples of how to ensure spaces and places are inclusive.

We have worked with accessibility and inclusion specialist Jean Hewitt at Buro Happold alongside a range of expert organisations to update the document. The updated guidance now includes advice for activities in community venues, green and blue spaces, such as parks and lakes. That is as well as low-cost practical examples of how to ensure activities taking place in traditional places, like sports halls and sports clubs are accessible.
