Beacon Medical Group

Beacon Medical Group Beacon Medical Group is providing forward thinking innovative patient care, setting the standards for others to follow in Plymouth and South Hams Area.

Beacon Medical Group was formed in April 2014 when three groups of family doctors agreed to merge to form one single practice. Each practice had a strong foundation of supporting their local community for decades but wanted to enhance their offer - to provide additional services and to secure a service for many years to come. Early on, Beacon introduces new groundbreaking services which provided faster access to help and at times bringing traditional hospital services out to the community. Our Urgent Care Team for example has meant that we have offered 10% more appointments to our community. If you want to help or have any comments or suggestions please do get in touch.

It’s Know Your Numbers! Week

This year’s theme is: Looking for the Missing Millions

Right now, 5 million UK adults aged 18-64 may have undiagnosed high blood pressure – increasing their risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease. Many don’t even know it. That’s why getting a simple blood pressure check at home could literally be a lifesaver.

High blood pressure is known as the “silent killer” – no symptoms, just risk. But knowing your numbers gives you the power to act – whether that’s eating less salt, being more active, or starting medication if needed. Age doesn’t matter. Everyone should Know Their Numbers!

From September 2025, Cervical Screening results are going digital.

Individuals who receive a negative cervical screening result will be notified digitally via the NHS App.

The result will appear as both a message and an app notification. If the message is not read within 72 hours, a paper letter will be sent as a failsafe.

This means quicker results for many people, while keeping a safety net so no one misses important information.
