When to Dissolve - and When to Pause

The moment you suspect a vascular occlusion isn’t the time to start panicked Googling.

Take a breath; this will help you think more clearly, then go step by step.

A calm injector works in steps, not in panic mode.

So, if you see concerning changes mid-procedure, follow these steps:

1️⃣ Stop injecting immediately.
2️⃣ Assess capillary refill and warmth.
3️⃣ Massage and apply gentle heat.
4️⃣ Reassess. If signs persist - escalate promptly to your prescriber.
5️⃣ Only dissolve when you’re certain and trained to do so, with consent and documentation in place.

Early warning signs that should raise concern:
✔️ Sudden pain (often out of proportion to the procedure)
✔️ Blanching or dusky colour change
✔️ Livedo or reticular rash pattern
✔️ Cool or mottled skin
✔️ Delayed capillary refill

Knowing when not to dissolve is just as important as knowing when to act. Calm, protocol-led practice saves time, stress, and potentially tissue.

Your Notes Are Your Safety Net. Make Sure there are no holes!

If it’s not written, it didn’t happen.

And when things wobble, your notes are your lifeline.

Good documentation doesn’t just protect you legally - it builds clinical confidence, continuity, and trust.

It also protects your clients from circumstances beyond your control, like a bad batch of product.

Here’s what every injector should be capturing every single time:

🩺 Consultation & Consent
✔️ Medical history (allergies, medications, contraindications)
✔️ Treatment rationale and discussion of alternatives
✔️ Patient expectations in their own words
✔️ Confirmed understanding of risks, side effects, and aftercare
✔️ Signed & dated consent.

💉 Treatment Details
✔️ Product name, batch number, lot, and expiry
✔️ Volume and placement sites
✔️ Technique (needle/cannula, depth, number of insertion points)
✔️ Photographs — before and after, with written consent
✔️ Confirmation of the prescriber’s F2F has been completed.

📋 Aftercare & Follow-up
✔️ Aftercare advice provided verbally and in writing
✔️ Follow-up plan agreed and documented
✔️ Any post-treatment communication recorded (texts, calls, reviews)

Detailed notes show your integrity in black and white. A little time now will save you a lot of stress later.
