Poles APart AP - Alternative Education Provision

Poles APart AP - Alternative Education Provision Poles APart AP is an Alternative Education Provision based in Devon and Cornwall. We are built on passion and genuine care for the students we work with.

We cater for ages 4-18 and have centres in Plymouth, Exeter, Bodmin and Tiverton. Poles APart AP is an alternative provision with a difference and we are proud to be working with young people aged 4-18 across Devon and Cornwall. As a provision and a staff team, we genuinely love what we do and appreciate how rewarding it is to know we are changing the lives of the young people in our care. We aim to allow students to reset, reflect, and re-engage, thereby giving them the confidence to positively change their pathway, which in turn supports them in leading happy and successful lives.

It’s Day 2 of our World Book Day week favourites 📚✨

Today we’re sharing two more stories that have made an impression and stood the test of time.

Let us know if they’re a favourite in your home too 👇💙

One of our Central students has fully embraced Careers week by putting himself in the shoes of a St John’s Ambulance first aider and a police officer.

From responding to “emergencies” to keeping everyone safe, he’s really stepped into character. Role play like this is such a powerful way for young people to explore different career paths, build confidence and develop communication skills.

We love seeing imagination and aspiration come together 💙

To celebrate World Book Day, each day this week we’ll be sharing two of our staff’s favourite children’s books. These are stories that have stuck with them, made them laugh, or that they still love reading again and again. 📚✨

Here are today’s picks… 👀 Let us know if any of them are favourites in your house too!

We’re kicking off Careers Week by sharing a recent visit from our Bodmin students to the local fire station 🚒🔥

Students learned about the different types of fire engines and how each one has a specific role depending on the equipment it carries and the situations it responds to. They even had the chance to try on the protective kit and talk about how it keeps firefighters safe on the job.

A brilliant, hands-on way to explore future career pathways and meet the people who keep our community safe 💙

Our Central students recently took part in group therapy with a twist — an emotional expression sweet pizza station 🍕💬

Using different sweets, colours and toppings to represent feelings, students were able to identify and express their emotions in a fun, hands on way. The activity also encouraged mindfulness, as they focused on textures, colours and flavours while creating their pizzas.

Most importantly, it opened up space for conversation, promoting social connection and meaningful discussions around feelings in a relaxed and supportive environment. 🤎✨

It’s been a lovely week at Forest School 🌲🔥

We had to make up for Pancake Day falling in half term… so of course that meant pancakes on the fire!

We’ve also celebrated lots of firsts - first ever Forest School sessions, first time lighting a fire, and first time safely using a saw. Big moments and even bigger achievements.

Alongside that, there’s been plenty of play, exploring, and of course giving the pigs a good back scratch 🐐💚

After reading a story about a turtle and his friends being harmed by plastic in the ocean, one of our students felt inspired to take action. 🐢💙

Armed with pickers and bags, they set off to Mountbatten Beach to do their bit to protect wildlife and care for the environment.

We love seeing learning spark real empathy and real action. Sometimes a story can make all the difference 🌊✨

We’re looking forward to celebrating World Book Day across our centres on Thursday 5th March 📚✨

Students and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite book character, and we’ll be asking for a £1 donation on the day to support our current fundraising efforts.

*Please note that our Plymouth Central base will be getting into the spirit a little differently on WEDNESDAY instead with a detective-themed dress up 🕵️‍♂️🔎*

We’re excited to see everyone’s costumes and celebrate the joy of reading together 💙

We’ve found another way to bring rainbow tracking in to our daily activities… 🌈

Using the parachute, our youngest students can explore colours, emotions and teamwork all in one go! They have been learning to recognise and talk about how they feel in a fun, active way. 💙

Our Beacon Primary students tried a simple (but very effective!) smarties/skittles experiment this week 🌈

By placing the sweets in a circle and adding warm water, they watched the colours slowly spread and blend. This is a great way to explore colour diffusion in a really visual, hands-on way.

It’s an easy one you could even recreate at home, and it sparked lots of curiosity, predictions and brilliant questions from our learners. Sometimes the simplest experiments are the most memorable ✨
