New book release: “Pranayama Lost in Translation”
Prana is not breath and pranayama is not breathing. Prana is life, that substance fluctuating within us in the time between birth and death. The Prana that shifts within us comes in six forms: Four vayus; they flow from the navel centre outwards and return, apana downwards, prana upwards, samana sidewards and udana to limbs and head. Those four vayus (winds) move in the rhythm of the breath, but are substantially different from breath. The fifth form is vyana, also a vayu, is moving independent of the breath all over the pranic body, to all places where we have removed impurities. The sixth form is kundalini, a dormant life force situated at the root chakra, awakened when the pranic body is purified. The movement of kundalini occurs when breath ceases. The freeing of the flow of these six forms is the practice of pranayama.
