1000 Miles Challenge
I have loved walking, especially on Dartmoor, since I was a child and still do today. The benefits of exercise and getting outside are huge so I have challenged all our Care Home Managers to β€˜Walk 1000 miles in July’!
There are ten homes in the South West Care Homes group and each one is developing plans to walk 100 miles. This is going to be a month-long event to engage every home in an activity in which everyone can participate at some level.
There will be activities happening both in the homes and in the community with opportunities for you to get involved. Miles achieved through the month will be recorded centrally on a bar chart and will be published on the company page and website. If each home achieves 100 miles, collectively South West Care Homes will complete 1000 miles overall.
There is also a Just Giving page for donations, and the charities we are supporting are the Cinnamon Trust cinnamon.org.uk and the Alzheimer’s Society www.alzheimers.org.uk .
We aim to end the month with an organised companywide walk on Sunday 27th July at Haldon Forest where staff, residents, relatives and anyone else can come, do a short walk and then celebrate our achievement.
Please talk to your local South West Care home team and get your miles on the board!

We recently welcomed Danny Gupwell, our new Maintenance Manager. He is responsible for overseeing the safety, functionality, and compliance of our facilities across all locations. With a hands-on approach and a focus on quality and efficiency, he will co-ordinate planned and reactive maintenance works, manage external contractors and ensure all health and safety regulations are met.
Following his role as the Contracts Supervisor for a prestigious property services company he is committed to maintaining a high standard of living and working environments for both residents and staff, and he will work closely with operational teams to minimise disruption and ensure smooth service delivery. With a strong background in Maintenance Management and a practical understanding of building systems, he will strive to provide solutions that are both effective and cost-efficient.
