**scary scales!**

Merry Christmas to all my followers, I hope you had wonderful days surrounded by those you love and that your New Years celebrations are fabulous too!

I know for some of you, that if you weigh yourself around this time as a way to measure your progress, it can be frustrating and upsetting, seeing that you’ve gained weight over the holidays!

I get it, I’ve been there so I do understand! But please, don’t punish yourself with restrictive, “I will only eat this now” or “I won’t eat any of this” diets in desperate attempts to loose festive pounds quickly, as while it may seem sensible, I really don’t think it is, here’s why.

Forcing yourself to not eat something will make you crave it and food cravings are hard to resist. Plus, you’ll end up seeking out alternatives. For example if you’re not eating chocolate to try to loose festive pounds, you’ll subconsciously go for other sugary foods, like cakes and biscuits, for the sugar craving hit, which you’ll feel good about, until you step on those scales again and you see no weight lost, or even worse, weight gained, and thus, the viscous cycle restarts.

Instead, try tweaking those “bad” foods you’re consuming. For example, having them less frequently, and/or when you do have them, having less in volume and/or as a treat for yourself for eating well for a period. For example, a few squares of your favourite chocolate after a “good day” eating and exercise wise, however that looks to you!

These enjoyable foods need to feature in your diet in moderation, banning yourself from eating them or even worse, punishing yourself after eating them, will make you feel depressed and anxious and as I said before, you’ll look for “craving satisfiers” and the dangerous cycle will continue. Including them in moderation will make your diet more enjoyable and sustainable and if it’s sustainable, it will be far more likely to succeed!

Moderation, not starvation!

Why should you do classes?

As well as the physical health benefits that come from the exercises which feature in classes, there are many mental health benefits you can experience by taking part in fitness classes.

Research has shown that just feeling like you’re part of a team can boost your motivation, while the feeling of teamwork can push you to find more to complete a challenging task, such as increasing your working speed, or pushing out that extra repetition, when if you’re working on your own!

Classes at cater for everyone from beginners, through to intermediate and advanced gym goers, with mine being no exception, you get out as much as you can and want to put in with my classes!

Classes are also options I like to offer to my clients to keep their training with me fun, interesting and challenging.

If you’re interested in what classes we offer then you can check them out on our app, on our webiste, you can ask any staff member in the gym or you can see our timetable on the wall in our functional area, at the front of the gym. The classes I am doing currently are:

Monday evenings 18:00-18:30: abs blast

Wednesday mornings 09:30-10:00 HIIT

And…

Sunday afternoons 12:30-13:00: LBT or legs, bums and tums!

If you have any questions about classes or anything gym, fitness or rehab/injury related, and/or you’re ready to take the leap towards a fitter, stronger, leaner and/or happier and healthier you NOW, not in 2022, but now, reach out to me and let’s get working!

Good evening everyone!

It’s time to look back on a busy weekend with covering the 4orce on Friday night at and the Wanderers, (the 3’s squad), at home to

The 4orce game kept me busy, as I was covering both teams in physical encounter with the hosts coming out victorious! However, a pint (or several 🍻🤣) and a singsong as well as some good food was enjoyed by all those involved after the game!

Onto the Wanderers yesterday who welcomed to Chapel Gate as they looked to continue their strong season with a home win!

This presented me with a mentoring opportunity as Jacqui from had recently started on her pitchside journey! This was a unique and refreshing experience for me and I hope I helped her at least a bit!

The score finished 34-12 to the Wanderers with presenting moments of real quality alongside the boys on a very difficult winter’s evening for Rugby in which the swirling wind played havoc and the bitter cold gave me an extra consideration! Once again, a drink, a good meal and a laugh was enjoyed by all after the game!

Looking ahead to next week, I’ve got programs in creation currently for exciting rehabilitation for a couple of my players, hopefully my first shift at and more concussion research to come, so keep your eyes peeled and as always, I appreciate any and all likes, comments and shares, so thank you all for your continued support!

Enjoy the rest of your Sundays guys and girls and I’ll post again soon!

As always, my thanks to for their ongoing excellent support 🏉💪

Good afternoon everyone!

I had the pleasure of working alongside a colleague covering a busy Under 14’s school Rugby tournament at Chapel Gate yesterday!

As you can see from the schedule, it was a packed day which kept me busy alongside my colleague as we covered 9 teams in all across 3 pitches.

The event passed largely without incident until near the end when one of the lads took a nasty whack on the head. He was initially cleared but then had a delayed concussive reaction, where he became slower with his responses, said he felt sick and dizzy, had ringing in his ears, and was confused and lethargic.

After keeping him calm, some careful management and monitoring and taking time to make sure he could be taken to hospital by a tournament organiser as opposed to an ambulance, he was taken to hospital for further assessment by Doctors. I sure do hope he’s okay, it was a nasty shock for the little chap!

That got me into researching and thinking today about concussion in youth Rugby, I got going today as you’ll see and I’ll post over the weekend once I’ve had some time to really do some digging into this interesting topic!

After the tournament was the senior men’s training, with a busy weekend of fixtures ahead that sees three teams in action, I myself am going with the 2’s to Henley for a league clash-more on that to come tomorrow!

The players under my care at training are progressing well and I’ve recently started working with a young prop to help him recover from and strengthen after a knee injury, so some exciting times are ahead which I’ll post about soon!

To all my lovely followers I hope you all have fab weekends and I’ll post again soon!

Hey everyone,

I hope your weeks are going brilliantly as we race towards Christmas, it sure is getting colder and darker now, especially on these training nights at !

I wanted to take the opportunity to share some knee rehab work I’ve done recently with one of the lads.

In this video, we’re working on dynamic knee stability using a spinal board strap clipped round the knee which I pulled on to add force and cause the knee to engage to maintain stability.

Although it’s not entirely shown in this video (Facebook only let me upload one for some reason 🙄), this force is applied from different directions via me positioning myself in different positions around the player, so as to work on and improve stability in all directions, a key component in Rugby due to its dynamic nature, especially for players like this chap who use agility and footwork to greet effect, they really need their knees to be as strong and stable as possible.

These are great exercises which can be done with a band or towel or similar snd a partner, or you can tie your tool of choice around a structure to create more even resistance.

Looking ahead to the weekend I’ve got two matches to cover so I’ll be kept in my toes I’m sure! More will come on soon!

For now have an awesome Friday and weekend guys and girls and I’ll post again soon!

Good afternoon everyone!

What a Saturday I had alongside 3’s, as they travelled down to and came away with a 38-0 win yesterday!

Players came in at short notice and put in shifts to allow the boys to produce an excellent, all round performance in a well disciplined and hard fought game!

Just the one injury occurred which will be assessed, then dealt with and managed in the following days to look to keep the squad at full strength and maintaining this run of good performances 💪🏉

Now it’s onwards to training on Tuesday, I’ll post about that soon!
