A free online course teaching British Sign Language (BSL) has "surpassed expectations" with tens of thousands of people signing up, its organisers have said.

While staff at Doncaster Deaf Trust had aimed for about 3,000 subscribers to the BSL course it had developed, over 31,000 people across the UK had so far joined in.

It's great news that people are eager to get their communication right, with more than half of the general public saying learning basic words and phrases in BSL would help them.

Big new findings for hearing health! A UK-wide study has found that around 20.3 million people aged 50 and over may be living with some form of hearing loss. Not only that 7.7 million of those cannot hear clearly with both ears.

This highlights just how important it is not to “wait and see” when it comes to your hearing.

- Early identification can help maintain quality of life and social engagement.
- Hearing check-ups should be part of your regular health plan — especially if you’re over 50.
- if you’ve noticed subtle changes in your hearing (even if you think “it can wait”), it’s worth getting checked sooner rather than later.
