Walter Carrington's birthday anniversary - I never met him but I have learned so much from his books and lessons from teachers who did meet him. I keep going back to his teachings and reading them afresh as I continue to apply the Alexander Technique in my life and I continue to learn from him.
Today we celebrate the anniversary of Walter’s birthday; his unique and tireless dedication in preserving the authenticity of the technique he learnt from F. Matthias Alexander; and his generosity, patience and skill training generations of teachers at The Constructive Teaching Centre and beyond.
From the many of us who continue to take inspiration from your teaching, writing and example, thank you and Happy Birthday Walter!
From his Address at the Oxford Congress, 2004.
I feel greatly privileged to stand before you tonight. It is just seventy years ago this
August since I first read ‘Man’s Supreme Inheritance’ and sought to answer the simple question, “What is the Alexander Technique?” Of course, at that time I did not have the experience to understand what I was reading. It was only long afterwards that I realised that Alexander’s writings, like the traveller’s tales of distant lands, can only be truly appreciated when we have made the journey ourselves.
