Family Pose-The Tree
Try this pose at home with your children to stretch the inner thigh, strengthen legs, improve balance and co-ordination as well as focus.
-Decide which leg to balance on. Shift your weight onto this leg coming onto the toes of the other leg.
-Draw tummy button toward navel, engaging the core to help your balance and take both arms wide like tree branches.
-Turn the knee of the leg you aren't balancing on, to the side. You can keep the foot here, slightly resting on the floor, resting on the calf or thigh, avoid resting on the knee.
-Young children may find it easier with the foot resting on the floor. You can hold their hands for extra support (for them not you!)
-To help your balance a) engage your core b) find a spot infront of you to stare at and c)breathe! keep breath flowing, we tend to hold it when we are concentrating.
-Then repeat the other side!
HAVE FUN! Pretend with your child that you are trees in the wind, sway your upper arms side to side whilst engaging your core to further work those muscles and balance. You can take it in turns being the wind, trying to blow the other one down as they sway and lose their balance.
