DID YOU KNOW? 🤔💭
Neck pain can be a real pain in the neck… literally! 😫
It may come with symptoms such as:
Headaches, stiffness around the neck, shoulders and upper back, difficulty turning your head, or even numbness, tingling and “pins and needles” travelling into the shoulders or arms.
Common causes can include poor posture, repetitive lifting, sprains and strains, acute injuries, trapped or irritated nerves, carrying extra body weight, scoliosis, sports contact injuries such as rugby, football or boxing, and repetitive sports or hobbies like snooker, darts and golf.
And let’s be honest… staring down at your phone like you’re searching for buried treasure probably doesn’t help either! 📱🤣
Neck pain can often be managed with gentle stretching, heat, sometimes ice in the early stages, and appropriate pain relief where suitable.
For longer-term improvement, lifestyle factors can also make a big difference, including regular exercise, strengthening, flexibility work, cardiovascular fitness, and maintaining a healthy weight.
At John Cox Health & Sports Therapy Practice, treatments such as:
Sports Massage Therapy
Physiotherapy
Acupuncture
Hands-on therapy
Neck mobility and stretching techniques
can often help reduce stiffness, improve movement and support recovery.
The pictures below show, in red, common areas where pain can be felt from different muscles around the neck, shoulders and chest.
So, whether your neck has gone stiff from work, sport, stress, driving, lifting, snooker, darts, golf… or simply sleeping like a folded deckchair 🪑🤣 — help is available.
If you are worried, unsure, or symptoms persist, always seek advice from your GP or a fully qualified therapist.
So now you know! 🙌🤩👍
