Benefits of Infrared Sauna
Weight Loss & Increased Metabolism
The sauna based at Koa Recovery has been clinically tested for weight loss at a University in New York. During the session, you can burn up to 300 calories and kick-start your metabolism. As part of the study, participants who used the sauna three times a week reduced their body fat by and an average of 4% over four months. Those who participated in the study did not change their exercise or eating patterns during the study. Weight loss has a range of health benefits including decrease cardiovascular risk and the risk of developing some cancers and diabetes.
Boost Immune System
We have all heard the term 'Sweat It Out' and now you can! An infrared sauna session heats your body from the inside. The absorption of infrared heat raises your core body temperature boosting cardiovascular, lymphatic and immune systems. Certain bacteria are also unable to infrared helping to kill germs and aid the healing process.
Detoxification
Some people suggest that we are exposed to more than 700,000 different toxic chemicals on a daily basis. Toxins can make us feel fatigued, moody, sore and also lead to breakouts or rashes. According to Dr Raleigh Duncan, “The sauna gets the toxins out (of the fat cells), and then the fat will start to come off. That’s how the whole system works.” The sauna stimulates sweat glands to release toxins from our body. A daily sweat helps remove toxins including lead, alcohol, ni****ne, nickel and mercury.
Muscle and Joint Pain Relief and Stiffness
Increased circulation during the sauna means the body is more readily able to remove waste products from the body including lactic acid and deliver oxygen-rich blood the muscles. This enables faster recovery. The warmth also provides space for your muscles to relax and the size of our sauna means that you can stretch while being exposed to the infrared to improve your flexibility and range of motion. Infrared heat may also help decrease spasms and soreness. Infrared saunas have also been shown to decrease symptoms of arthritis, bursitis, joint stiffness, sprains and strains.
Stress Reduction
An infrared sauna is a calming and relaxing space which slows down the nervous system helping the body shift to its healing state. Upon exiting you will feel rejuvenated, replenished and relaxed.
Skin Health
Sweating allows the removal of dead skin cells and impurities from our body. The increased blood flow decreases cellulite, evens skin tone and increases elasticity to help reduce the appearance of fine lines. The infrared sauna has also been shown to decrease acne, and help the management of eczema, psoriasis and healing of wounds to speed recovery time and decrease scarring.
