Honestly I got lost in the numbers (not my strength). However I wanted to share what my cost are as a therapist to people who are thinking of moving into this line of work or are just starting out 😊

Most people don’t come to therapy because they’re “broken.”
They come because they’re exhausted.

Exhausted from overthinking everything.
From being the strong one.
From saying “I’m fine” when they’re anything but.
From carrying things alone because they don’t want to be a burden.

Therapy isn’t about lying on a couch talking about your childhood (unless you want to).
It’s about having a space where you don’t have to perform, explain yourself, or hold it together.

A space where your anxiety makes sense.
Your low mood is understood.
Your feelings aren’t “too much”.
And you are met with curiosity, compassion, and honesty — not judgement.

I work in a person-centred way, which means you lead.
No ticking boxes.
No telling you what you should feel.
Just real conversations, at your pace, about what actually matters to you.

If you’ve been thinking:
• “I should be coping better than this”
• “Other people have it worse”
• “I don’t even know where to start”

…therapy might be exactly where you start.

You don’t have to hit rock bottom to ask for support.
You just have to be ready to stop doing it alone.

A secret that shouldn’t be a secret 🤐

It’s really time to humanise mental health in therapists.

I can go weeks and months working with individuals and organisations supporting with mental health.

Then BOOM 💥

My battery is empty and the thoughts kick in and MY GOD ITS DEBILITATING.

But…..

I use the strategies that I have learnt over the years and that I know work for me.

1. Breath - box breathing is amazing, I know everyone does this differently but I do: breath in for 5 seconds, hold for 5 and then breath out for 5. This allows you to control your breathing and calm your nervous system.

2. Write it down - I 100% believe that writing something down is halfing the problem. As an example I might write :
“My heartbeat is too fast, I can’t sit still and I have a dry mouth”

3. Talk to and question it. Following on from point 2, the things I have wrote down i might say/shout “STOP” and outloud say “why is this happening to me, is it helping me and can I control it”

YES I F***ING CAN 🥊

I can control my breathing which will slow my
Hearbeat.

I can’t sit still - this is avoidance. I say “Chris why are you avoiding this” learn to lean into it or it will never go away

It takes time 🕰️ for sure but remember you are in control of 90% of the things around you and your 💭

Spent four years being told what I should do as a therapist. But no one really teaches you how to just be yourself.

So here’s me, no fancy words, just letting you know how I work.

At the end of the day, I’m not some bloke sat on a pedestal – I’m just a human, same as you.

I’ve felt stuff, I’ve been through stuff, and I’m still dealing with life like everyone else.
