On Friday’s at my YOGA FLOW classes to help my revision I’ve been incorporating a whole lot of theory into my teaching; they say the best way to learn is to teach!

Last week my class plan was centred around Liver Qi Stagnation to Disperse the Liver and Regulate Qi to encourage the smooth flow of Qi that the Liver loves so much.

Today we’ll focusing on Calming the Shen, but what is Shen?

In the Shen can be translated as the Spirit. The Shen is seen as the whole emotional, spiritual and mental aspects of a person and is a vital concept in understanding a patient’s psychological and physical health in clinical practice.

The Shen is one of the 3 treasures alongside Jing Essence and the energetic life force, Qi. Together, these 3 support physical health, vitality, and spiritual balance.

Energetically, the Shen is housed in the Heart and the heart governs mental activity, consciousness and emotional wellbeing. When the Heart is strong and nourished, the Shen will be clear, calm and settled; although if the Heart is weak or disturbed, the Shen may become restless, scattered or agitated.

We’ll use acupressure, breathwork and asana to de-stress, calm and rebalance our physical and energetic body.

I’ve been a little quiet on socials recently between juggling uni assignments, study, teaching and !

I knew our final Yoga Teacher Training Graduation weekend was going to be a special one with our beautiful bunch of trainees….but what I hadn’t realised was how the whole experience has impacted each one of you so deeply and collectively as a group…friends for life ❤️

Reading your reflections re-confirms yoga is so much more than asana….it’s “transformative”, “life-changing” and completing the course “goes far beyond a yoga teacher training”, it’s “everything that I didn’t know I needed.”

I will have more to share after processing today’s emotional rollercoaster 😭

This past 10 days have been a whirlwind…hit the ground running back at uni at the beginning of the month, followed by a nourishing weekend at YTT, straight back for 2 more full on days at uni and thrilled to have another assignment submitted….and now on to the next one!

Life is full at the moment, but it’s also fulfilling.

Feeling grateful to be doing work and study that feels aligned, purposeful and brings a whole lot of joy.

WINTER SOLSTICE ENERGY
It’s the most yin time of year before we prepare for the light to return 🩵

In TCM, Winter season is dedicated to the wisdom of the Water element and the yin and yang organs of the Kidneys and Bladder.

The Kidneys are our body’s batteries to govern our overall energy levels. Here’s your gentle reminder to give yourself permission to slow down and conserve your Qi.

The Kidneys also store our vital life essence, or Jing
so trust in the stillness to nourish what’s been depleted and restore your reserves.

Winter Solstice is reminding me that rest is part of the cycle. So I’m honouring the pause. Letting myself be still after what’s been a super busy year of work and study. Here’s to rest, reflection, and slowly welcoming the light back 💫

And huge thanks to for bringing our first anatomy sessions to life by exploring the incredible intelligence of the body and how it supports our asana practice.

A NEW PATH UNFOLDS
I’ve been putting the final touches together to my training manual which has been nothing short of a labour of love. Every page has been shaped with care and intention. With countless revisions and a deep commitment to offering a meaningful, practical and inspiring resource for our trainees.

This project has been a team effort. And a huge thanks to Jordan, whose design skills and attention to detail has brought the manual to life so beautifully.

It holds the Journey into Power sequence, philosophy, anatomy, reflections, and space for personal growth. I can’t wait for our gorgeous group of trainees to make it their own as they mark it with notes and highlights over the coming months.

After a summer of planning, late-night brainstorming and a whole lot of manual writing to prepare for the launch of my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training next month…it’s now time to get recharged and ready for 2nd year!

Here’s to a season of bold new beginnings and juggling the workload from delivering YTT lectures to completing my Chinese Medicine assignments 😂
