One week ago today, something momentous happened.

The BSL (Wales) Bill passed, a moment so many in the Deaf community have waited years, even generations, for.

This wasnโ€™t just a law.
It was recognition.
It was visibility.
It was a voice finally being heard.

A step towards a Wales where British Sign Language is respected, valued, and embedded into everyday life.

But this moment is not the finish line; itโ€™s the beginning.

Now, we move forward.

Together, we continue pushing for real access, real inclusion, and real change in our communities, services, and workplaces.

Because everyone deserves to be understood.

It's ! This year's theme โ€œUnited in Signโ€, celebrates unity, pride, and collective action around sign languages.

For the Deaf community: โ€œThis is our language, our heritage, our identity. This week we lead, we stand proud - United in Sign.โ€

For the wider public: โ€œEvery sign learned is an act of allyship. Join us as an ally, learn, share and support us.โ€

Our free Sign Language Week taster sessions this week are fully booked! But good news: We still have spaces on our FREE Deaf Awareness Taster Sessions in May. Register here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/action-deafness-68948261853

๐ŸŽ‰ Yesterday was truly a historic day for Wales. ๐ŸŽŠ
Action Deafness Cymru was delighted to be represented at the Senedd Cymru alongside other members of the BSL Consortium including the BDA, NDCS, RNID as well of course as members of the Deaf community. Yesterday was the day Senedd debated and passed the Wales BSL Bill into law. It's a momentous occasion and one that Action Deafness Cymru was extremely proud to be part of. We can't wait to see this Bill finally enacted.

It's important to recognise the work this team did as Wales Council for Deaf People (WCDP) prior to becoming Action Deafness Cymru. It was a brilliant day, and the team did so much to make it a success. Congratulations! ๐Ÿ’š

A momentous occasion in the Senedd today - my British Sign Language (Wales) Bill passed unanimously.

This is without doubt, the most progressive BSL legislation in the UK โ€“ and once implemented will firmly place Wales as a leading nation in how BSL policy is designed and delivered for the benefit of the Deaf community.

Following the Debate on Stage 4 of the Bill, I was delighted to join Deaf community members from across Wales for their celebratory event in Cardiff Bay, which I spoke at.

What a moment for Wales!

The BSL (Wales) Bill reaching its final stage is a powerful step forward for the Deaf community. Recognition of British Sign Language means greater visibility, inclusion, and respect for Deaf people across Wales.

Today we celebrate progress and the community that made it possible. ๐Ÿ’™
