As we head into the festive period we have a slightly more serious message.
This week we were referred a very young child.
Less than 5 years old. The notes read ‘everyone important in their life has gone - died or left’
These stories hit hard. Innocent children, all alone, completely vulnerable with no one they loved left to turn to.
How can they even begin to learn to trust anyone or anything? Where do carers even start to help them process what has happened to them, to help them grow into well adjusted people?
This is not an isolated case. This is one of many tragic cases our team will work with and have worked with throughout each year.
And yet funding for children’s mental health has taken a nose dive. There’s a view that the mental health of children is less important. It’s a hard pill to swallow for us when we read cases like the above.
We know children’s mental health matters and we know these children need us. Our work gives children who often find the world unsafe, a safe space, just for them, to take the world into their own hands. A place for them to process their own emotions at their own pace, and the ability to grow in resilience and confidence.
This is vital work. Everyone has a part to play in helping to shape the next generation. We want to help children facing the hardest times start to see a brighter future.
