Otinova Ear Spray UK Otinova Ear Spray is a medical device which treats outer ear infections and swimmer's ear (also known as 'otitis externa').

Otinova is unique in that it contains Burrow’s Solution; an astringent mixture of aluminium acetate, aluminium acetotartrate, acetic acid, and water. As early as the mid 19th century Karl August Burow showed that using lead acetate and alum in water gave rise to a solution of aluminium acetate. Burow used this to treat open wounds. For many years Burow’s solution was commonly used to treat insect bites, various skin lesions and ear canal inflammation. Now available in a preparation based on Burows recipe, this clinically proven antifungal and antimicrobial ear spray comes in a 15ml bottle (150 doses) and is available on prescription or over the counter.

Despite taking precautions, swimmer's ear can sometimes still develop. Otinova is an over-the-counter ear spray to treat swimmer's ear at the first sign of symptoms. Available online and in pharmacy with an antibacterial and antifungal effect.
Seek medical advice if symptoms don't improve after 3 days of use. Always read the label.

Putting objects in your ears - such as cotton buds - can scratch and irritate the lining of your ear canals, increasing the likelihood of swimmer's ear developing.

Hearing aids and earphones can also cause itching and irritation in the ear canal.

If you need to use these devices, keep them clean and try to take regular breaks.

Watch out for symptoms of swimmer's ear (otitis externa) and act quickly if they develop, such as by trying first-line treatments like Otinova and seeking medical advice.

Trapped water in the ear canal is a leading cause of swimmer's ear, as the water erodes your ears' natural defences. This can make them more vulnerable to inflammation and infection.

Try to keep water out of your ears and be sure to dry them thoroughly after swimming and showering etc.

Swimming in polluted water can increase the risk of outer ear infections, not to mention a host of other illnesses.
Check the water quality before you swim (tools available online) and watch out for signs of illness if you think you have been in polluted water.
Seek medical advice if you become unwell.
