For many, winter can be a gloomy and difficult time when negative thoughts may be encouraged by overcast days and long dark evenings. It can be a relief when March arrives and with it the promise of better weather and a chance to look outward and engage more with the world beyond.

However, for some people, even the advent of spring cannot overcome the negative rumination they may be experiencing on a daily basis. Some thoughts may be hard to shake and even the changing season cannot improve the low mood which overshadows the chance to enjoy life. This is when it may help to reach out to another. It may be a family member, a trusted friend or even a counsellor. Having someone who has the time to listen with empathy and non-judgement can make all the difference to how you feel.

Whomever you choose, sharing your concerns with another may help to lift you out of the shadows currently enveloping you and point you towards the sunshine.

Today, Wednesday 1 November is . It is promoted by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) and is designed to encourage us to take time to identify the strains and worries which create stress not only in our workplace but also in our personal lives.
Work -related stress is sadly a well known term in our society and it’s likely we have had some experience of it either personally or through someone we know. It can cause emotional and physical problems and may lead to time off work and a seemingly endless struggle with life in general.
With a little space to think, we can begin to consider ways in which we can tackle our anxieties and hopefully lessen the impact they have on us.
Why not see today as your opportunity to recognise the things that are weighing you down and consider the options available which may weaken the stranglehold these concerns have on your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Making time for yourself should never be underrated. It is an investment in your long-term welfare.

It was good that we were encouraged to think about individuals’ rights to good mental health this week thanks to on Tuesday. (See my earlier post.)
I happened to meet up with a good friend on that day which really boosted my mental wellbeing.
We caught up with all our news and spent time reflecting on the good things in our lives as well as some of the challenges we’ve overcome. A truly energising experience.
Have you done anything good for yourself this week? If you haven’t yet, why not be kind to yourself this weekend? (Photo by Helena Lopes - Unsplash)

You may be interested to know that today, Tuesday 10 October is .
The World Federation for Mental Health has given this year’s event the theme: ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.
Challenges to our mental health are all around us. Some are clear to see and understand (such as a loss of job or bereavement), while others creep up on us without us realising until our daily lives are affected. Examples of these include unrelenting stress at work, a difficult relationship, or demands coming at you from too many directions.
Does any of this resonate with you? Perhaps today is a good day to prioritise your mental health or reach out to someone in your life who you feel is struggling right now.

I'm just back from a relaxing walk through local woodland. I took time to enjoy the sun casting its rays between the branches of the trees and savoured the autumn birdsong.
These moments are special to me for they provide a connection with nature and a moment of calm. It's an experience which sets me up for the week by energising my body and boosting my sense of wellbeing.
Do you make time for yourself to recharge for the coming week?

Tech is not my forte and I’ve just spent the last hour battling with a new phone to set up my Facebook advertising account.
I struggled alone, until I realised I needed help and asked for some. It still remained a challenge for me, but I got through it with the support from someone who was able to guide me through it.
Reflecting on the experience, it struck me that this is a little like counselling. I didn’t like to admit I needed help, but once I accepted that I did, my direction and focus became clearer.
The most important part for me was that I had someone to share my problem with and see me through it.

Hi and thanks for taking a look at my page. Whether or not you have had counselling before, you may be wondering what to expect from your sessions and your counsellor. I offer a free 30 minute consultation which will hopefully enable you decide if counselling is for you. Together, we can talk through your reasons for seeking help and explore some of the ways in which I can support you in getting to grips with the problems you are facing. If you choose to undergo therapy with me, I offer sessions online, by phone or face to face.
I believe the answers lie within us. This is underpinned by my person centred training which places you, the client at the heart of everything we do. I also offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) support if you are looking for a more structured approach to managing your problems.
Wishing you the very best.
