On Monday we held our second Veterans coffee and cake afternoon in Poole North. Thankyou to our speaker, James from OpCourage who shared information on mental health and wellbeing support for veterans.

Thankyou also to our team of Care Coordinators, Social Prescribers, Pharmacy & Nursing Team, NHS Healthcare Armed Forces Community Health & Wellbeing Team, Help&Care, Amy Walton, Caroline Hearne and our practice volunteers for supporting the afternoon with providing information, support, blood pressure checks and cake.

It was a great turnout and an opportunity for veterans to meet with others, share ideas and information on groups and services on offer to veterans in the local area.

โญ๏ธNational award for helping financially vulnerable people stay well and warmโญ๏ธ

The NHS Dorset Intelligence and Insight Service won a national award for helping people stay healthy, safe, and supported last winter.

The team worked with GP surgeries, local charities, councils, and other services. They used local data to identify people who might be finding it hard to pay for heating or food, especially older people who live alone or have long-term health problems.

By safely sharing and using this information, the team could see where help was needed most. The approach brought together more than 15 organisations, all committed to helping people stay safe and well, not just in winter, but all year round. This meant they could offer warm places to go, advice events, and other support before people became unwell or reached a crisis point.

A big thank you to the general practice teams across Dorset who were involved in this work and helped to make such a difference to our communities.
