💙 Training that changes the way we care

At Care South, we believe great care starts with understanding. That’s why we recently completed the rollout of our new Dining for Dementia initiative across all of our care homes.

Over 443 team members took part in immersive training designed to help staff better understand the challenges people living with dementia can experience during mealtimes. By stepping into the shoes of residents, teams gained valuable insight into how busy dining environments can feel and how small changes can make a huge difference to comfort, confidence, and wellbeing.

The training was delivered by Karen Hodges, Group Dementia Lead, alongside Mark Wardman, Catering Operations Manager, and Charlotte Mitchell, Resident Activities and Lifestyle Lead, who travelled across our homes to support every team.

At Care South, learning and development is more than training sessions. It’s about giving our teams the confidence, empathy, and skills to deliver truly person-centred care every single day.

🏍️💙 This is what person-centred care really looks like

At Alexandra House, care is about so much more than support with daily living. It’s about getting to know every resident, understanding the things that matter most to them, and creating meaningful moments that bring joy, connection, and treasured memories to life.

Recently, resident Tony was surprised with his very own motorbike rally as part of Care South’s Make a Wish initiative, helping residents reconnect with hobbies, passions, and experiences that mean so much to them. After hearing Tony’s stories about his lifelong love of motorbikes, the team reached out to the local biking community to help make a special wish come true.

Thanks to the incredible support of bikers from across Dorset and Wiltshire, 36 motorbikes arrived at the home, giving Tony the chance to reconnect with a huge part of his life alongside family, friends, residents, and the care team.

Moments like these are what make working in care so rewarding. No two days are ever the same, and every day brings opportunities to make a genuine difference to someone’s happiness and wellbeing.
