Watch or listen to our 'Life & Loss' podcast series https://www.youtube.com/ or https://linktr.ee/forestholmehospicecharity Forest Holme Hospice provides palliative and end-of life-care and support to more than 1,500 people each year across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s, heart disease and respiratory illness. Forest Holme is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust but still needs to raise £1 million each year so that the team can deliver the highest level of care, when and where it counts. Forest Holme Hospice Charity was set-up to ensure that everyone in the local community affected by life-limiting illness or bereavement gets the care and support they need, either at home or in its dedicated hospice facility. The Charity works together with Macmillan Caring Locally to support the provision of Palliative and End-of-Life Care across the geographical remit of University Hospitals Dorset. The hospice has a team of specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, complementary therapists and specialist care teams who provide practical and emotional support for adults of all ages and their families in a variety of settings, such as their own home, nursing home, care home, in hospital or in the hospice itself. Forest Holme also offers counselling and bereavement support to both newly diagnosed individuals and family members, as it understands that care extends beyond physical treatment of symptoms, as the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social needs of patients, their families, children and carers all need to be considered. The demand for palliative and end-of-life care is ever increasing as people are living longer and have more complex illnesses, so the Charity relies on local support from individuals, companies and groups to help continue the provision of excellent palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families during the most difficult time of their lives.

We wanted to share this moving story that was shared by Jane Spurin, who earlier this week spent the afternoon making Christmas cards with Bella and Barley Craft and Bournemouth Parks in Mind. 🎄

She said, "Although it was fun, it was also a poignant reminder that we're hurtling headlong into having to deal with our first Christmas without my brother. Andy died in Forest Holme Hospice Charity, who looked after him (and us) in the last few weeks of his life. So I bought some of their charity pins and incorporated them into my design." ❤

It was so lovely to welcome our corporate charity partners, James and Matt from Quartz Estate Agents to the hospice last week, who popped in for a cuppa and brought along the amazing donations raised from Matt’s incredible run in the Bournemouth Running Festival, where he completed the Bournemouth Half Marathon 🏃‍♂️👏

27 years ago, Kev’s dad, Mike Wells, was cared for by the Forest Holme Hospice team during his final days, so to give something back, Kev – who’s celebrating his 60th birthday this year – decided to take on a sponsored Wing Walk! 🛩

Of course, every great adventure needs a partner in crime, so enter Rick, who didn't take much convincing before he agreed to join Kev in doing something daring to raise money for a cause close to both their hearts.❤

Originally due to take flight in July, the challenge was postponed due to technical issues but nothing was going to stop them and finally Kev and Rick finally took to the skies, proving just how brave (or perhaps just how crazy!) they really are. 👏💪

Together, they’ve proved that courage and friendship really can take you to new heights and have raised over £2,100 to support local hospice care. ❤
