A great achievement for Bournemouth NICU 🫶

Congratulations to Tace Young, Neonatal Infant Feeding Specialist and the infant feeding champions who have achieved Stage 1 of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Accreditation!

The initiative is designed to provide parents with the best possible care to build close and loving relationships with their baby and to feed their baby in ways with support optimum health and development.

Tace said, "I feel proud of this achievement and the positive impact that this will have on the families and babies we support on the neonatal unit. This initiative has improved staff confidence, and they are committed to delivering a five-star standard of feeding support"

This info from First Steps Nutrition is worth saving ✏️

People often think that babies may need additional fluids in warmer weather but breastmilk caters for our babies whatever the weather 🌦️
For babies who are formula fed, give additional feeds as required and/or offer small amounts of filtered water.
Your little one may feed more frequently when it’s hot and this is perfect toy normal*

*if you are concerned about your baby in the warmer weather and they are behaving differently and Causing concern, always seek medical advice 👩‍⚕️

Hello, welcome to latch&learn 👋

I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself to new followers 👋
My name is Tace and I’m the person behind the page 📄

It’s always nice to put a face to the name, so here I am!

My passion and specialist interest is breastfeeding and all things infant feeding! So becoming an IBCLC was a dream come true and something I worked towards for 5+ years.

I have been a neonatal nurse for 9 years and a qualified nurse for 15! I love my job in NICU and have recently dived into the new role of Neonatal infant feeding specialist! But being an IBCLC is definitely the cherry on top 🍒

I have three young children that I had varying feeding journeys with and this provided me with the determination and passion to learn how to support mums/parents to reach their feeding goals 🌟

I hope that my knowledge and expertise can help you achieve your feeding targets 🎯

I mentioned in a previous post that we are conducting a study funded by the MRC to explore pathways for emergency formula milk provision for families in crisis in the UK.

We will shortly be opening up our research to parents/carers and those who support them but a number of people who support families have got in touch to ask about the project and share some details about their local authority scheme to support families.

We'd really like to get a snapshot of the different pathway models that are currently in place and would really appreciate your help in doing that.

We've put together a form for anyone in the UK working with families in crisis and who is knowledgeable about emergency formula provision to provide details of their local pathway.

The form has opportunity to give details of the pathway but you can also just leave an online link (if one is available) if you don't have time to add the details. The form would take between 2 - 20 minutes we think to complete depending on the details you give.

However, if you know your area doesn't have a pathway in place (or one is under development) you can add those details and it would take you about 2 minutes.
