A reminder that it is possible to cup feed a newborn infant safely. If baby is not latching, this can be a suitable alternative to bottle feeding. Please ask for support from a qualified professional to learn how to do this safely.

We’re used to thinking that if you can buy something for your baby, it must be safe. And when they look like decent, well-made, helpful products you’d be fairly confident they are. But in reality, there are lots of products for babies online that can be deadly. Real examples of dangerous baby pr...

🥰

10 years ago today, I was bouncing on a birthing ball in my lounge when the doorbell went. Little did I know this person would become an angel to me!

I had previously had much needed breast reductive surgery with follow up treatments due to some complications during the months of healing. The surgery team and post op professionals had all said I had experienced damage and loss internally and wouldn’t be able to breastfeed. I was 20, this was not my concern. BUT, when in the latter stages of pregnancy, I had this nagging feeling that I needed to try to breastfeed, a neighbour (thank you!) put me in touch with an IBCLC.

This lady at my door, a super woman. Listened to me, educated me and soothed my anxieties. She empowered me and in the most gentile manner, she encouraged me to practice breast massage and hand expressing.

After an hour or so, a (what turned out to be) monumental thing happened, where these scarred, wonky, painful breasts, began to produce the yellow liquid gold. While it was clear I was going to be relying on a very reduced number of ducts, the fact was, we, together, had proven then, that I would be able to provide some of the milk for my baby.

This is where it all began!

Those same ni***es continue to produce milk and nourish 10 years on. The depleted number of ducts have stepped up to the challenge repeatedly defying expectations and showing just how capable the body is at adapting and satisfying these instinctual needs of parenthood and babies.

If only every expectant parent had access to these knowledgable advocates. I will be forever grateful.
