"It doesn't end with the diagnosis, the biggest thing we found is that people think, diagnose and that's it; but there's a whole life for this person to live."

Meet Sam and Rupert, two dedicated sons and family carers, as they share their journey of caring for their mother who has dementia.

🌳 Rupert's Story:
Rupert, a father and freelancer with a background in care. Alongside his brother Sam, Rupert helps look after their mother, who was diagnosed with dementia. Rupert recalls the initial shock of her diagnosis and the difficulty of seeing her lose her ability to read and lecture, activities she once loved. As the more emotional of the two, Rupert provides a unique and compassionate perspective on their experience.

🌳 Sam's Journey:
With 20 years of experience in care, Sam's career started in childcare and evolved to hospital work and managerial roles. Now, as the owner of his own GoodOaks Homecare franchise, Sam shares his insights into their mother's journey with dementia. Initially diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, her diagnosis later changed to frontotemporal dementia, believed to be caused by a heart failure that reduced blood flow to her brain. Sam discusses the impact of her condition, including her brief but concerning hallucinations and how their family care roles have transformed over time.

Topics Covered:

What's your previous experience with care?
How was caring for your mum changed your relationship?
What's the first thing you should know when you start supporting mum?
What equipment can help support people at home?
What advice would you have for someone organising care for a loved one for the first time?

Join us to hear Sam and Rupert's touching story and gain valuable insights into the world of family carers.

If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one with dementia, you are not alone. GoodOaks Homecare is here to support you every step of the way.

🌟 Above & Beyond in Every Moment 🌟
At GoodOaks, going the extra mile isn’t something we save for special occasions — it’s woven into the way we care every single day.

Over the past month, during a period of illness, our team stayed closely by Agnes’s side. We reassured her, held her hand, sang her favourite songs, and made sure she felt safe, comforted, and never alone.

These are the moments that matter — the quiet acts of kindness, the gentle presence, the human connection. This is what person‑centred care looks like, and we’re incredibly proud of our team for living these values so naturally.

💙 Supporting dignity.
💙 Bringing comfort.
💙 Being there — truly there — when it counts.

🎄💚Bringing Christmas to Those Who Need It Most🎄💚

This Christmas Eve, one of our carers brought Christmas dinner to her client - knowing she would be spending the day on her own.

A warm visit, festive treats, gentle conversation, and the reassurance of companionship made all the difference.

No one should feel forgotten at Christmas - and our team makes sure of that. 💛🎄💚

Bournemouth and Poole’s premium care provider

At Good Oaks, we’re passionate about supporting our carers to provide quality, enabling care to our clients in their own homes.

Having founded the Company after working for a company that didn’t value or support it’s staff, we know the only way to provide quality care is to work with quality people, and support them to do the best they can for their clients.

In practice, this means we provide a thorough, paid, practical induction, regular support from our Team Leaders and Coordinators, and approachable, common-sense management.

Our payrates lead the sector, our guaranteed hours are generous and our employment package is designed to reward our carers for the hard work they do.
