Introducing Marian, our new Social Circles host in Bournemouth.
Marian and her family are looking forward to welcoming Social Circles guests very soon.
Her house has a sunny and welcoming lounge as well as a sociable kitchen diner. Marian enjoys cooking homemade meals but pudding does not last long in her house. The garden is well stocked with trees and shrubs as she likes to attract wildlife to watch in the garden. There is also a studio in the garden which is used for art and craft activities. Marian’s children are aged 10 and 12 and sometimes will join in with activities if they’re not at school. She does have a pet dog, a lurcher called Eddie. He can be very pleased to meet people at first but then he spends most of his time sleeping so he enjoys a fuss.

This poem is just beautiful 💕

Stevie Jones wrote this poem, named Help Me Remember, in honour of his uncle who lived with dementia. 💙

‘It’s something I had to learn about and help him as best I can. Always tell them about the past, not what or who they have lost, and never take things to heart. That’s the best advice I can give anyone.'

The poem reads:

I have dementia it’s like a curse

You don’t have to tell me, I'm getting worse

Locked inside my head all day

I'm screaming and shouting but just can’t say

Help me remember, play my song

Play it loud please sing along

I can’t help the things I forget

Come see me, don’t make me regret

Family visit but sit and stare

I just can’t remember, help me be aware

Talk to me about the past

My life has gone downhill, gone so fast

Let us talk about the things we did

Tell me what we done as kids

My memory is not working today

I'm not thick, I'm just having a bad day

Please sit with me sit a while

I don’t want to cramp your style

It’s nice to see a friendly smile

But sit with me a talk for a while

Dementia is a horrible disease

Today at our Social Circles session Margaret, Melvyn and Rachel had a great day today. They sat in the garden chatting, the world 🌎 map tablecloth led to a conversation about travelling and they watched the butterflies 🦋🦋

She said, "We ate a sausage tray bake followed by home made scones 🥞

Margaret chose the hare in the sticker book, we had a team effort to find the numbers and stick them on. We were pleased with the result! 😍 We also had a try at Chinese Chequers with a quick game of dominoes to finish before heading homewards."

🌟 What a fantastic week we've had at GoodOaks Homecare! 🌟

On Wednesday, we had a brilliant time at the Age Friendly Forum, connecting with local people and sharing our passion for quality homecare. And yesterday, we were thrilled to attend the launch of the Tomato Project - an inspiring event focused on Supporting Eating and Drinking Well with Dementia at Home, part of an NIHR-funded study.

It was a real pleasure chatting with everyone about the amazing work our team does every day, and we’re so proud to be part of a community that’s committed to improving lives.

💙 A big thank you to everyone who stopped to speak with us we loved hearing your stories and sharing ours.
