Port Talbot Funeral Service

Port Talbot Funeral Service Independent Funeral Services | Private Chapel of Rest | 24 Hour Personal Service It closed its doors in 2008 as a Church and was left to deteriorate.

Holy Cross Church, otherwise known as the Chapel of Ease was built in 1827 with the permission of Margams 'Talbot' family. Plans were sought to change the Church into a house, which included relocating several headstones and surfacing over those graves to provide a parking area. However, Mr Malcolm Evans, a lifelong member of the Church and local funeral director purchased this beautiful building and restored it to its former glory including the magnificent stained glass window. The surrounding grounds are also maintained meaning the final resting place for your loved ones is both a beautiful and peaceful place to visit.

Today we mark Mothering Sunday, a day when many people take time to celebrate and thank the mothers and mother figures who have shaped our lives.

For some, today is filled with flowers, cards and family gatherings. For others, it can be a time of reflection, remembering and quietly honouring a mother who is sadly no longer with us.

At Port Talbot Funeral Service, we know how special those memories can be. Today we remember all mothers with love and gratitude, and we hold in our thoughts those who may be finding today difficult.

Whether your mum is beside you today or forever in your heart, her love and influence remain a lasting part of who you are.

💜 Today we honour and remember all mothers.

The interest and kind words shown towards our goats has been nothing short of astonishing. Thank you all so much for your messages and support – it really means a lot. 🐐

To keep our community informed, and to ensure we remain respectful of the space and the people we serve, we’ll be sharing a dedicated post once a week with updates on our little residents.

One question we’ve been asked a lot is: “What are the boxes they’re wearing around their necks?” These are GPS devices creating an invisible fence system. They help us keep the goats safely within a marked area of the grounds. The devices work by emitting a gentle signal if the goat approaches the boundary, encouraging them to stay within the designated space – it’s completely safe and allows them to roam freely without wandering too far.

We’ll continue to share updates and stories about the goats each week, so you can enjoy their antics while we keep the grounds calm and safe for everyone.

Have you seen our little adventurers around the grounds yet?

Over the past few days we have received some wonderful messages from members of the community sharing their memories of Holy Cross Church, now the chapel of rest at Port Talbot Funeral Service. It has been truly touching to hear your stories and to see some of the photographs people have kept over the years.

This building has clearly been part of many important moments in people’s lives, from weddings and christenings to times of remembrance. It’s lovely to see how much history and meaning it holds for so many in the community.

Today we’re sharing a few photographs of the church as it stands today. We would really love to continue building a collection of memories connected to this special place.

If you have any old photographs, stories, or personal memories of Holy Cross Church, please feel free to share them in the comments below. You can also add links or photos so others can see them too. It would be wonderful to create a thread where the community can look back and celebrate the history of the church together.

Thank you to everyone who has already shared their memories with us. It means a great deal to see how important this place has been to so many people over the years.

The reaction to our recent video about the goats has been incredible. We’ve been blown away by the number of views and the kind messages of support we’ve received. It’s been lovely to see how much people have enjoyed meeting our new four legged friends.

Over the coming weeks you will hopefully start to notice lots of small changes and improvements around the grounds as we continue working to make Port Talbot Funeral Service a welcoming and peaceful place for everyone who visits.

Although we own the church building, the surrounding land remains under the care of the Church in Wales. However, we believe that by working together and taking pride in the space, we can help create a calm, friendly and respectful environment for families and visitors alike.

We are also working inside the church to make sure that when families come to see us, they are welcomed into a space that feels personal, comfortable and dignified. Our aim is to make every visit as supportive and reassuring as possible during what can be a very difficult time.

Thank you again for all the support and encouragement, it really does mean a lot as we continue to make improvements.

And of course, the goats are still keeping a close eye on everything… making sure we don’t cut any corners. 🐐

It’s been just over a week since our goats joined us here at Port Talbot Funeral Service, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the lovely feedback from visitors and members of the community.

They’ve settled in beautifully and have quickly become part of the place. In fact, they’ve made so many friends that they now seem to follow us everywhere around the grounds.

If you’re visiting the graveyard and happen to see them, please just remember to be respectful of the space and the animals. Try not to make any sudden movements that might startle them, and please make sure the gate is closed behind you.

They’re very friendly… Safe to say they’re not kidding around when it comes to following people!

Thank you again for all the kind comments and for helping us keep the space calm and respectful for everyone who visits.
