Was walking the dog on Monday for my once a day exercise when I passedSt Joseph’s church in port talbot where sadly there was a funeral. The procession came out and were reasonably social distancing. However the undertaker staff were huddled in a group chatting. Three of them to start then another joined them. The three were in a tight group for some while. They will probably go to the next funeral and the next and so on. Of all people I think they should be aware of the need to maintain as much distance as possible. I just don’t get it!

This Friday 17.1.2020 will be the first Circle of Light meeting at Aberavon Wellness Centre 130A Water Street, Port Talbot, SA12 6LH. 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This will be a development circle for mediumship and psychic work. We will start with guided meditation and over the weeks progress to more targeted training. Gill Mitchell, the medium, is a well respected medium and psychic. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT FOR PERSONAL READINGS, BUT A DEVELOPMENT GROUP. The weekly cost is £5 per session. Please share this post with anyone who may be interested in attending.

Please can you knit or crochet some 8” x 8” squares for us for our charity? We are going to make a blanket out of it and raffle it for RADAR a local community charity. Please knit or crochet in Double Knitting yarn. Barista’s coffee shop in the Aberafan town centre have a collection box for us, so please ask. They have also kindly given us a gift voucher as a raffle prize. We are raising funds for a free Christmas party for children between 2-10 in Aberafan. Santa will be there, and we’ll have a lovely disco and party games. Please also like our page RADAR on Facebook and join in with our events.

Kindly, Wool Buttons & Bows have agreed to have a collection box for our charity knitted squares. Pop in and see them, have a look around and drop your donation off. They are hidden away in between the cafe and chemists in Station Road Port Talbot down a little alley. Well worth a visit. Warning though, if you’re a knitter or do crochet this place may become addictive!

Tension square instructions. Use 4mm needles and double knitting yarn. Cast on 48 stitches and work 64 rows then cast off. You can do Stocking stitch, garter stitch (knit every row), can knit a picture in it, a pattern, cables, bobbles, anything you like. The finished product should be 8” x 8” square. If your square measures a bit small, use bigger needles, if too big go down a size. The blanket we make will be put into a raffle to provide funds for a children’s Christmas party for up to 100 children. Children in the Aberafan area and under 11 years, can attend for free and irrespective of their parents ability to pay there will be no charge. COMPLETED SQUARES NEED TO BE IN BY 14/12/19 PLEASE. I have to crochet them together!

We now have the details of the shops who will collect the knitted squares. Barista’s coffee shop in the Aberafan Centre will accept them, as will Wool Buttons & Bows in station Road, Port Talbot. Thank you so much to both of them. Barista’s has a lovely range of meals and snacks, sweets and deserts. They are currently featuring Black Jack ice cream and milk shake!
Wool Buttons & Bows have and extensive range of knitting and crochet yarns, a selection of buttons, ribbons and embroidery kits. Nice to have another wool shop in Port Talbot! Instructions for the square and photos of the wool shop to follow.

Calling all knitters! I am a member of a charitable group called RADAR(see our page). We are trying to get money to arrange a free Christmas Party in the Aberafan area of Port Talbot for up to 100 children. The party will be free irrespective of the parents‘ ability to pay. We will have a DJ and presents and food. We are trying to raffle a blanket for funds. This is where you come in. Can as many kind people as possible knit us an 8” x 8” square please and donate it? I will then crochet them together into a blanket shape and raffle it. Please can you do it in DK yarn? We are hoping to get a shop in the town centre to be a drop of point for them. Thank you in advance. We did bag packing at Tesco’s today and raised £175 but we need lots more money to pay for everything we want to provide.

There is a craft fair at Riverside church in the town centre of Port Talbot tomorrow, Saturday 14th September from 12.00 until 4.00pm. The council have decided to resurface the road directly outside, giving just 2 days notice but parking in the pay and display by the side is plentiful. Please come and see us if you are in the area. Lots of different craft items to buy in the start of the run up to Christmas! I can’t believe I actually said the C word in September! Sorry! PLEASE SHARE THIS, ITS ONLY A LITTLE CHURCH AND NEEDS THE SUPPORT.
