12 Tips for Coping at Christmas - Day 12 - Keep Communication Open.

Communication doesn't need to be complicated. Don't fear normal conversations with your loved one, they want to be part of this celebration with you. If in doubt, rather than walking on eggshells, be open, direct and honest....JUST ASK. Even if you don't always understand completely, asking shows the want to try to. Be patient and remember you don't have to have answers either, sometimes creating non judgemental, safe spaces for your loved one to be heard is enough.

12 Tips for Coping at Christmas - Day 11 - Self Care for Carers.

As carers it can be easy to give at the expense of our own needs, this can lead to physical and emotional burnout. Give yourself permission as a carer to take some time for yourself over the festive period.

Protect some time to catch up on your favourite book over a cuppa, watch that favourite Christmas movie you haven't seen in years, go for a walk on your own etc. Whatever it is, make sure you're doing it for you and nobody else. You deserve the same care you give to others.

12 Tips for Coping at Christmas - Day 10 - Self Care Coping Strategies.

Self care isn't all bubble baths and manicures, self care is prioritising time to meet your own needs. This could be a need for comfort, support, connection, learning etc. Self care doesn't have to be complicated, often the most effective self care is simple and accessible.

It might be helpful to take a photo of your "5 ways to well being" Self Care list and have it on your phone as a tool whenever you may need it.
