In a world that often celebrates productivity + doing, choosing rest can feel unfamiliar - even uncomfortable. But true, restorative rest is not a luxury - it’s essential nourishment 🌱
There are seasons where our bodies whisper + seasons where they insist. Times when rest becomes not just helpful, but necessary. When the body + soul ask us to soften, to slow, to simply be 🙏🏼
Lately I’ve been learning from the quiet wisdom of the body + how powerful it can be when we truly listen.
But rest isn’t always sleep 😴
There are many types of rest we often overlook:
🫶🏼 Physical rest (both passive - like sleep + active - like gentle movement + massage)
🫶🏼 Mental rest (moments without stimulation, space between thoughts)
🫶🏼 Emotional rest (safe places to be held, to express, to feel without fixing)
🫶🏼 Sensory rest (quiet, dim lights, less screen time, soothing sounds)
🫶🏼 Social rest (intentional time alone, or with those who feel nourishing)
🫶🏼 Creative rest (taking a break from problem-solving or output to allow inspiration to return)
When we allow ourselves to honour these needs, we support our nervous system, hormones, immune health, digestive system + emotional wellbeing. We return to ourselves - not as we were before, but softer, stronger + wiser.
If your body has been asking you to slow down, to unplug, to breathe deeper… maybe this is your reminder that rest is essential nourishment for the mind, body + soul 💫
