Have you heard people talk about Compassion-Focused Therapy but aren't quite sure what it means β€” or why it matters?

Our Introduction to CFT workshop is designed for teams who want to understand the science behind compassion and how it applies in real-world working environments.

Covering evolutionary models of the mind, the three emotion systems, compassionate mind practices, and real-world applications β€” this is the foundation session for teams working with distress, change, or high-pressure cultures.

Session typically runs 2–3 hours. Ideal as a standalone workshop or as an introduction before other wellbeing sessions.

Facilitated by Dr. Mark Doyle, BPS Chartered Psychologist.

Are you your own harshest critic?

Many of us carry deep self-criticism β€” especially in high-pressure work environments. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) is an evidence-based approach designed to help people develop kindness towards themselves, build emotional resilience, and break cycles of shame and self-blame.

At Well Balanced Minds, we integrate CFT alongside CBT and EMDR to provide therapy that is genuinely tailored to each individual β€” not a one-size-fits-all model.

Sessions are available for self-funded individuals, through employer referral, or via insurance.

What if your staff left a session with real, practical tools to manage anxiety and stress β€” not just a list of tips?

Our workshop, Psychological Skills to Manage Anxiety & Distress, is exactly that.

Grounded in CBT and Compassion-Focused Therapy, staff will learn and practise:
βœ… Calm breathing and progressive muscle relaxation
βœ… Worry and rumination management
βœ… De-catastrophising and challenging unhelpful thoughts

No jargon. No fluff. Just evidence-based techniques that actually work β€” delivered in a way that feels accessible and relevant to your team.

Perfect for INSET days, away days, or wellbeing sessions.

Have past experiences left a mark that's hard to shake?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy proven to help people process trauma and distressing memories β€” so they stop holding you back.

It might sound unusual, but the research is solid and the results can be life-changing.

Dr. Mark Doyle, (BPS Chartered Psychologist & Associate Fellow-- Cognitive Behavioural & Compassion Focused Psychotherapist), offers EMDR as part of personalised therapy at Well Balanced Minds β€” in Portadown or online.

More good news to share this week! πŸ’™

Well Balanced Minds is now recognised by BUPA for psychological therapy β€” meaning that if you have BUPA private medical insurance, you may be able to use your policy to access therapy with Dr Mark Doyle, BPS Chartered Psychologist and BABCP Accredited CBT Psychotherapist, right here in Portadown.

This is in addition to our existing recognition by AvivaPPP, Vitality, AXA, and WPA.

If you have private health insurance and have been considering therapy, it is always worth checking your policy. Many people are surprised to find that psychological therapy is covered β€” and that waiting times with a recognised private therapist are considerably shorter than through NHS referral.

How it works:

βœ”οΈ Contact your insurer to check your cover and request a pre-authorisation number
βœ”οΈ Get in touch with us to arrange your first appointment
βœ”οΈ We handle the rest

We offer a free 20-minute initial phone consultation for anyone considering therapy β€” no commitment, just a chance to ask questions and see if we are the right fit.

We are absolutely delighted to share some exciting news. πŸ’™

Dr Mark Doyle, Clinical Lead here at Well Balanced Minds, has today been awarded Associate Fellowship of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS).

Associate Fellowship is awarded in recognition of a significant contribution to the development and application of psychology in practice (particularly focusing on workplace mental health). It sits above Chartered Membership and is one of the highest marks of professional recognition the BPS can award.

For Mark, this recognition reflects a career spanning over fifteen years β€” six years as a lecturer and senior lecturer in psychology at Solent University, almost a decade of NHS clinical practice across IAPT services, occupational health, acute mental health, staff wellbeing psychology service and regional specialist HIV psychology service. He has also published research into the mental health of frontline and emergency service workers, security personnel and now the founding of Well Balanced Minds here in Portadown.

We are incredibly proud. This award reflects not just professional achievement but a genuine, sustained commitment to bringing the best of psychological knowledge and practice to the people who need it most.

Yesterday we officially launched Well Balanced Minds Ltd. πŸŽ‰

It was a small, personal gathering β€” just family and a few close friends β€” in our therapy suite here at Morrison House, Portadown. Exactly how we wanted it. Grounded, warm, and surrounded by the people who have supported us through the journey of getting here.

Well Balanced Minds has been a long time in the making. Between us, Mark and Bridgene bring decades of clinical, academic, and social care experience β€” and a shared belief that people in this part of Northern Ireland deserve access to high-quality, compassionate psychological support close to home.

We are here to help individuals who are struggling with anxiety, low mood, trauma, burnout, or the pressures of working life. We are here for employers who want to look after their teams properly. And we are here for the complex cases that need someone to hold the whole picture together.

We are only getting started β€” but yesterday felt like exactly the right beginning.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our incredible photographer and talented sister (Andrea) for capturing the day so beautifully. πŸ“Έ https://www.facebook.com/TheseLittleFiresPhotography/

Across the country, people are working beyond what their bodies can handle.

Fear of replacement, being labelled difficult or losing control of their fragile stability can push people to overwork and remain silent.

Changing this requires direct action on workload expectations, unpaid labour, job insecurity, workplace isolation and cultures that discourage people from speaking up.
