Really pleased to have had the opportunity today to speak with the wonderful members of Portchester Community Association Primetime Club! We chatted about effective foot care, ways to keep feet healthy, and how a podiatrist can help support long-term mobility and comfort. There were lots of great questions, plenty of laughs, and such a warm welcome — thank you for having me!

🏃‍♂️ Runner’s foot care
This runner regularly attends EG Podiatry as he’s prone to callus build-up from high mileage. I carry out routine callus removal approximately every 8 weeks to help keep his feet comfortable, reduce pressure, and support injury prevention.

Alongside treatment, I’ve advised the use of a urea-based foot cream at home to maintain healthy skin between appointments.

He’s also recently visited Alexandra Sports for a comprehensive gait analysis and new running trainers — you can get 15% off using my referral code.

Whether you’re a runner or on your feet all day, regular podiatry care can make a real difference.

🎄 Merry Christmas from EG Podiatry Portchester 🎄

Wishing all our patients a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year.

A big thank you as well to everyone who contributed to our sock collection for the homeless — we collected over 400 pairs of socks, half of which will be handed out tomorrow morning, such a wonderful example of community spirit ✨

Thank you for being part of our journey, and we will look forward to seeing you in 2026 👣

NHS England reported 3,890 ingrown toenails presented at A&E last winter. Podiatrists are the experts in foot and lower limb care and can provide specialist care for ingrown nails, including minor surgery to resolve them. Check with your local NHS for podiatry access criteria or find your nearest private podiatrist at https://rcpod.org.uk/find-a-podiatrist and save A&E for the critical care.

Here at EG Podiatry Portchester, we’ve been absolutely blown away by your generosity!

What started as a simple Christmas collection of socks for the Help the Homeless Breakfast on Christmas morning has grown beyond anything we imagined. Thanks to your incredible kindness and donations, we now have enough to take to Stratford on the 28th of December — where we’ll be helping to treat the feet of those in need.

If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, there’s still time! Donation boxes are available at:
🧦 Portchester Hub
🧦 Portchester Community Centre
🧦 V Lounge
🧦 The Cormorant

I’ll be collecting right up until 24th December, so any last-minute donations are hugely appreciated.

Thank you all so much for your amazing support — you’re truly making a difference this Christmas! ❤️

❄️ Cold Weather and Calluses – Why Winter Feet Need Extra Care

When the temperature drops, our skin loses moisture more quickly — and that includes the skin on your feet. Cold air, indoor heating, and thick winter footwear can all lead to dryness and pressure, making calluses harder, thicker, and more likely to crack.

If your heels feel rough or sore, or your callus builds up faster in winter, you’re not alone. The combination of dry skin and winter boots can make every step uncomfortable.

At EG Podiatry Portchester, we can help you stay one step ahead this season. We’ll safely remove hard skin, restore smoothness, and give you simple tips to protect your feet through the colder months — so you can enjoy soft, pain-free feet all winter long.

Are Corns Making Every Step Uncomfortable?

Corns may be small, but they can cause a big amount of pain. These hard, thickened areas of skin develop when there’s repeated pressure or friction — often from tight shoes, high heels, or even toe deformities like bunions or hammer toes. They can feel like you’re walking on a pebble, making everyday activities uncomfortable.

Corns form as your skin’s natural way of protecting itself, but once they develop, they don’t go away on their own. They can become sore, inflamed, and in some cases, lead to further foot problems if ignored.

The good news? With the right care, corns are very treatable. Wearing well-fitting shoes with plenty of toe room, using protective pads, and keeping your feet moisturised can all help prevent them from forming. But once a corn is painful or persistent, it’s best to see a podiatrist.

At EG Podiatry Portchester, we can safely and gently remove corns, assess the underlying cause, and give you tailored advice to stop them coming back. Whether it’s footwear guidance, pressure-relieving devices, or ongoing foot care, we’ll help you get back to walking comfortably again.

👣 Don’t put up with the pain — your feet work hard for you every day, so give them the care they deserve.

🎄 It might feel early to mention the “C” word… but Christmas is just around the corner, and here at EG Podiatry Portchester, we’re launching our annual sock collection for the homeless 🧦💙

Why socks?
• Socks are the least donated item to shelters
• Yet they are one of the most requested
• For people facing homelessness, wearing wet, worn or poor-quality socks can lead to serious foot health problems

Something as simple as a fresh pair of socks can make a huge difference this winter — providing warmth, comfort, dignity, and healthier feet.

👉 Please note: all socks must be brand new and unworn.

Where to donate

You can drop off your socks at:
📍 The V Lounge
📍 The Cormorant
📍 Portchester Hub
📍 Portchester Community Centre

Or, if it’s easier, you can call us to arrange collection: 01329 275303.

A little thank-you 💙
If you donate one new pair of socks, you’ll receive 10% off any treatment at EG Podiatry Portchester, in the month of December.

Unlike coats or jumpers, socks are often treated as disposable — which is why shelters rarely have enough. This Christmas, let’s pull together as a community and make sure no one goes without something so simple, yet so essential.
Warm feet, warm hearts. Every pair you give will make a real difference 🙏
