Coming into the Royal Glamorgan Hospital? Please bring your medicines with you.

Over the next few weeks, the Pharmacy team at Royal Glamorgan Hospital will be installing a new dispensing robot. While our new dispensing robot will help support safer, smoother patient care, it does mean there may be some temporary delays to providing medicines during the installation period.

You can help us by bringing all the medicines you take at home when you come into hospital for a planned appointment or admission.

This includes:
• Prescription medicines
• Inhalers, creams, eye drops
• Insulin and injectable medicines
• Tablets, capsules and liquids
• Over-the-counter medicines (e.g. pain relief)
• Vitamins or herbal supplements

Bringing your medicines helps us:
✅ Avoid delays - we won’t need to spend time contacting your GP or pharmacy to confirm your medicines.
✅ Make sure your treatment is accurate - our doctors and pharmacists can quickly check exactly what you take and the right doses.
✅ Reduce medicine waste - if you already have your medicines with you, we won’t need to supply extra packs unnecessarily.
✅ Save NHS resources – reducing waste means we can use resources where they’re needed most.
✅ Keep you safe during your stay - it reduces the risk of errors and ensures we continue the right treatment while you’re in hospital.

We’ll check and store your medicines safely, they may be used for your treatment in hospital if appropriate, and they’ll be returned when you go home.

If you forget or come in as an emergency – don’t worry, we’ll still look after you.

But if your visit is planned, please remember to pack your medicines.

Thank you for helping us manage this change.
