In Loving Memory of Mr. Walter Glyn Thomas

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Walter Glyn Thomas, a devoted family man, respected businessman, and proud Welshman whose vision and determination built a lasting legacy.

In 1967, Walter founded Thomas Coaches with a clear ambition: to provide high-specification single deck vehicles to the travel industry. Through hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to quality, he grew the company from its early beginnings into a trusted and respected name. What began as a business was, to Walter, far more than that — it was a life’s work built on pride, perseverance, and service.

In 1996,, the family established Thomas of Rhondda. Together, they strengthened the foundations Walter had laid, ensuring the family’s dedication to excellence would continue for generations to come. Seeing his family share in his passion was one of Walter’s greatest joys.

Operating from the old “National Welsh” bus depot in Porth, South Wales — just 18 miles from Cardiff — Walter remained deeply connected to his community. His work was not only about vehicles and journeys, but about people: the passengers served, the staff who became extended family, and the community he was proud to call home.

Walter’s legacy lives on through his loving son Ian, and the thriving family businesses he so proudly built. He will be remembered for his vision, his strength of character, and the steady guidance that shaped both his family and his company.

His journey may have reached its final destination, but the road he paved for others continues on.
