Pont Newydd Medical Centre Pont Newydd Medical Centre official page to inform patients of practice updates We offer a full General Medical Service.

Pont Newydd Medical Centre serves the whole of Porth as well as the surrounding areas. Our team includes five Partners; five salaried GP's; five nurses; three health care assistants, 2 pharmacists, 3 pharmacy technicians as well as our practice managers, office supervisor and administrative staff. As a teaching practice, we will on occasions have medical students from both Cardiff and Swansea University. These are medical students who are here to learn and are supervised by the GP’s. If you would not like a student present during your consultation, then please inform the staff when booking your appointment

There is a pharmacy attached to the building which offers on-site dispensing service. Our aim is to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence. We feel that it is important to know who you are speaking to, so our practice staff wear a name badge and identify themselves whilst taking telephone calls. If you live in our practice area and would like to register with us, please complete our registration forms which are available at the reception desk or or on our practice website along with our new patient questionnaire. On Monday 19th January 2026 , we launched a new system for Chronic Disease Management reviews called ‘Medlink’. This system is being used in many GP practices across the country with success.

As part of your annual review you will be sent an invitation with a link to a personalised health questionnaire.

We hope that you find the new system a comprehensive and focused approach to your health.

The questions are easy to follow and can be filled out in your own time.

Key Features

Accessible – Straight from text message to online consultation
Relevant – Covers important questions about your health
Individualised – Information relevant to you
Convenient – Complete in your own time
Integrated – Attached to medical record

The new system will assist in gathering the data necessary for reviewing all of your relevant condition/s in the easiest way possible, reducing the number of appointments in the surgery you require. In some cases, you may not require a face-to-face review at all if the clinician is happy with the data you have provided and the current management of your condition. However, if you would like to request a follow up, you can state this in your submission.

You will be sent an invitation primarily by email or text message, with a link to complete your personalised health questionnaire. Depending on the condition/s you have, you may then be asked to book an appointment for e.g. blood test, foot check in the surgery to complete the data collection part of your review.

Once all of your results are back, these are automatically sent to an appropriate clinician to review. At this stage they will decide whether they are satisfied with the results and let you know if your review is complete, or if a follow up is required. You will be informed of this by a member of the team and instructions of what to do next.

See the short Youtube video below for how MedLink works.

This week marks Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.
26/01/2026

This week marks Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women under the age of 35.

Cervical screening can save lives by preventing cervical cancer from developing, or by picking it up at an early stage.

Women, and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64, are invited for an NHS cervical screening (smear) test every five years.

The sample is tested for high-risk types of a very common virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus can cause the cells on the cervix to change, and these changes can develop into cervical cancer if left untreated.

Treating cell changes early means that cervical cancer can be prevented.
Nearly all cases of cervical cancer are caused by HPV.

It is still important to go for your cervical screening even if you have had your HPV vaccine.
