Happy World Day. For 2025 is exploring how we can work together to finance wildlife conservation more effectively and sustainably and build a resilient future for both people and the planet.

People everywhere rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet our needs - from food, to fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing and there is more and more research demonstrating how nature impacts our mental health too.

We’ve been privileged to work with Wildlife Trusts and various reports and will continue to support conservation any way we can.

Yesterday we were fortunate to spend the evening with a host of wonderful people at Bishop's Palace & Gardens in Wells for the South West Integrated Personalised Care Awards 2024. Meaningful Measures Ltd. was honoured to win the health equity award with our wonderful colleagues from NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly community health and wellbeing teams.

In February 2023, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System introduced teams of "Community Health and Wellbeing Workers" (CHWW) to support underserved communities to build relationships and identify people's needs. The initial pilot was so successful that it was extended to Penwith, Bodmin and Liskeard.

CHWWs encourage householders to initially identify their biggest concern and then work with them to reduce or remove that concern. Using Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing® (MYCaW) enabled the outcomes in social determinants of health as well as health outcomes to be evidenced, highlighting the inequity being experienced.

We’d like to extend our congratulations to all those involved in the service for being recognised for the incredible work they do and to say thank you for inviting us to be part of this wonderful project.

Great to see more evidence to support green prescribing

Thrive specialises in social and therapeutic horticulture, using gardening to create positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities, ill health and long-term conditions, or those who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.

From 2023-2024 alone, Thrive delivered 13,227 gardening sessions to 414 clients, trained 1,818 people to support people through STH and was supported by 217 volunteers.

We thought you should hear about a great paper published last week by Mandy Brass and Karen Charlesworth ‘Evaluating the outcomes and patient experience of group and individual acupuncture in an NHS cancer care setting: a mixed-methods study’.

Using a mixed-methods design, researchers compared Group Acupuncture with Individual Acupuncture for symptom-related outcomes, and patients' experiences and explored their inter-relationships, to inform future development of the service. Dimbleby Cancer Care, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust licences Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing (MYCaW®) via our digital portal which was used in this research to gather outcomes via questionnaires pre- and post-treatment and is a wonderful example of MYCaW® data can enable a better understanding of this cohort.

The World Cancer Day theme for 2025 “United by Unique” places people at the centre of care and their stories at the heart of the conversation. Our outcome measure tool Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing (MYCaW®) is an individualised questionnaire designed for evaluating holistic and personalised approaches to supporting people. It was developed when The Cavendish Centre for Cancer Care and Bristol Cancer Help Centre (now known as Penny Brohn UK) piloted MYMOP® at their centres and found that it had certain disadvantages. Consequently, from around the year 2000 onwards, a multidisciplinary research group (Charlotte Paterson, Helen Cooke, Pat Turton and others) designed and piloted a new questionnaire, now called MYCaW® which put people and their stories at the heart of their cancer care.

Behind every cancer diagnosis is a unique human story—stories of resilience, grief,
hope, and healing. People-centred care means seeing the whole person and
meeting their unique needs with compassion and empathy.
